    摘要: Tissue samples embedded in settable, sectionable media such as paraffin can be cut into sections. Embedding one or more sectionable fiducial indicia in the medium permits identification of the plane along which the medium has been cut. However, prior methods of inserting indicia into embedded tissue sample blocks are cumbersome and difficult to perform. Sectionable fiducial indicia can be embedded in a block of medium by releasibly fixing the indicia to the sidewall or base of a mold used to shape the tissue block during embedding of a tissue sample in the medium block.

    摘要: A cell analysis method is provided that comprises (a) removing embedding medium from a sample obtained from the tissue specimen which is aldehyde-fixed and embedded in the water-insoluble embedding medium, thereby obtaining the sample comprising the tissue from which the embedding medium is removed; (b) heating the sample obtained from step (a) in the presence of a divalent carboxylic acid compound to obtain a heat-treated sample comprising the tissue; (c) contacting the heat-treated sample from step (b) with an enzyme having a cell dispersion activity to separate the sample into individual cells, thereby obtaining the sample comprising the individual cells dispersed in a solvent; (d) subjecting the separated cells from step (c) to flow cytometry to obtain optical information; and (e) analyzing the cells based on the optical information obtained in the step (d).

    摘要: A method of staging a tissue sample cassette, including a cassette body and a lid, from an upper position in a frame used during a tissue embedding process to a lower position in the frame. The method comprises coupling the cassette with the frame such that the cassette is in the upper position and positively stopped at the upper position by first structure on a wall of the frame. The cassette is moved relative to the frame to the lower position by selectively engaging the cassette with a staging mechanism. An external force is applied to the cassette with the staging mechanism in a direction to move the cassette from the upper position toward the lower position. The cassette is retained in the lower position using second structure on the wall of the frame, such that the cassette is exposed for embedding the cassette in an embedding medium and subsequently slicing the tissue sample embedded in the embedding medium.

    摘要: Prior art for processing human cell or tissue biopsy specimens implies the individualization of the specimens by marking the specimen containers (e.g. for transportation) and the specimen holders (e.g. plastic cassettes, glass slides) but not the specimen itself. The specimen processing steps include several manual transfers of the specimens between different containers and specimen holders. This manual transfer may result in specimen mix-ups. These specimen mix-ups can be prevented by attaching solvent resistant uni- or multicolored barcoded cuttable strips of cellulose acetate directly to the specimens thereby marking and individualizing the specimen itself. The strips adhere to the specimens at all steps of tissue processing and evaluation.

    摘要: A cassette for fixing, embedding and slicing biological tissues includes a base sheet and a lid sheet formed of an elongated plastic sheet which is sliceable and has not less than predetermined strength. The base sheet has grooves as biological tissue receiving portions. The base plate and the lid sheet are formed by folding the plastic sheet along a fold line so that the lid sheet can be selectively opened and closed. Biological tissues are pressed against the bottoms of the grooves with pressing/retaining sponge members secured to the lid sheet at its portions corresponding to the respective grooves. In this state, the biological tissues are fixed by a fixing agent, and the cassette is dehydrated, infiltrated with paraffin as an embedding agent to embed the cassette, thereby forming a block including an embedding frame. The block is then sliced with a microtome to provide good biological tissue specimens.
