A phased-array RF pulse generator is disclosed which includes a video-pulse generator arranged to generate video pulses each having a leading edge. An array of nonlinear and dispersive transmission lines, are arranged to generate RF pulses from the video pulses. At least one sensor is arranged to detect the leading edge of the video pulses after they have passed along the transmission lines. A phase controller is arranged to set the velocity of the video pulses in each transmission line to put the detected leading edges, and hence the generated RF pulses, into a desired phase relationship.

This disclosure deals with significant innovations on an electronic apparatus for producing special effects by shifting the frequencies of audio signals through the use of the phase shifter technique for single sideband production. These innovations or the combination thereof consist of (1) the use of a beat frequency oscillator with two outputs in 90* phase relationship to facilitate frequency shifts of any amount and sign, exceeding the limitations of previously known phase shifter type audio frequency shifters by being capable of producing detuning effects down to and through zero frequency shift with a transition into sideband reversal, (2) the inclusion of an improved cascaded wideband audio frequency phase shifting circuit, (3) the addition of an inverse phase output circuit for the simultaneous production of an additive and a subtractive frequency shift, and (4) the exploitation of known means for making the beat frequency local oscillator voltage controllable.

A network to compensate for group delay having a pair of circuit paths with a variable delay network in one path and a fixed delay network in the other path. The input information is coupled to both circuit paths and the output of the two paths is combined in a differential amplifier to produce a vector addition of the signals from the separate paths. An isolation network is provided in the variable delay circuit path and a resonant circuit is provided to have an adjustable Q and adjustable frequency of resonance and is also located in the same path. Means are provided to adjust the relative amplitudes of the two signals so that the resulting output of the differential amplifier will have a substantially constant amplitude regardless of the output frequency or phase.
