Abstract: A process for producing a nonwoven fabric comprises the steps of a spinneret extruding a plurality of filaments, cooling the filaments with one or more cooling elements arranged below the spinneret, drawing the filaments in a drawing duct and laying the filaments on a movable support to form a nonwoven fabric. The process further comprises suctioning gas in a first suction device, heating the nonwoven fabric using a heated calender downstream of the first suction device to consolidate the filaments of the nonwoven fabric and to cause an increase in volume of the nonwoven fabric, suctioning gas below the movable support with a higher second suction speed, in a second suction device downstream of the heated calender, and suctioning gas below the movable support in a third suction region with a third suction speed lower than the second suction speed, by a shutter with one or more adjustable openings.

Abstract: A nonwoven textile can be treated with a laser to construct bonding structures between fibers of the nonwoven textile. In examples, the nonwoven textile can have fibers including a material that absorbs electromagnetic radiation emitted by a laser. In addition, based on absorbing the electromagnetic radiation, the fibers can soften, and the softened portions of the fibers can contact one or more other fibers of the nonwoven textile. When the softened portions re-solidify (e.g., after removal of the electromagnetic radiation), the re-solidified portions of the fiber can at least partially encapsulate the other fiber(s) to form the bonding structure between the re-solidified portions and the other fiber(s). In some examples, the bonding structure can reduce the likelihood of the fibers that are associated with the bonding structure from migrating through a face of the nonwoven textile and forming pills.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed, in part, to webs or topsheets for absorbent articles and methods of making the same. The webs and topsheets include bicomponent fibers having a first component and a second component, wherein the first component has a different hydrophilicity than the second component. The webs and topsheets include a continuous land area and discrete zones of modified surface energy. One of the first and second components forms an outer surface of the fibers in the continuous land area and the other of the components at least partially forms an outer surface of the fibers in the discrete zones of modified surface energy such that the discrete zones of modified surface energy have a different hydrophilicity than the continuous land area.

Abstract: Nonwoven webs having excellent fluid handling characteristics are disclosed. The nonwoven webs are made from a combination of binder fibers and structure fibers. The structure fibers are made from multicomponent, hollow fibers. The structure fibers include first polymer component zones that alternate with second polymer component zones around the circumference of the fiber. The first polymer component zone is made from a polymer having a lower melting temperature than the polymer contained in the second polymer component zone. In this manner, the fibers have a three-dimensional conformation that produces significant void volume within the nonwoven web.
