Abstract: A welding process, welding system and welded article are disclosed. The welding process includes generating a first beam from a stationary fusion apparatus and generating a second beam from a rotatable fusion apparatus. The first beam and the second beam form a weld in an article. The welding system includes a stationary fusion apparatus and a rotatable fusion apparatus directed at an article to be welded, the stationary fusion apparatus and rotatable fusion apparatus being arranged and disposed to form a single weld in the article. The welded article includes a first element welded to a second element, the welded article having a decreased root reinforcement, in an inaccessible region, from that of a hybrid stationary fusion apparatus.

Abstract: Molded articles and methods for forming molded articles are provided. For example, a molded article comprises a first region formed by a first casting material and a second region formed by mixing a molten or liquid portion of the first casting material and a second casting material. The first casting material is a molten, liquid, or fluid metal alloy, and the second casting material is a molten or fluid metal alloy. The first casting material has a different chemical composition than the second casting material. The first region and the second region are cast as one integral casting using directional solidification, and the first region and the second region have different microstructure patterns. The molded article has a lower concentration of impurities than were present in the first and second casting materials, and an interface between the first region and the second region is devoid of an oxidation layer.

Abstract: A method of welding a superalloy component includes the following sequential steps. A welding step for welding a cavity using a filler metal in an inert atmosphere, where the cavity is located in the component. A covering step for covering the filler metal and a portion of the component with a weld filler layer in the inert atmosphere. The weld filler layer has a greater ductility than material comprising the component and/or material comprising the filler metal. A second covering step for covering the weld filler layer with a braze material, and subsequently performing a brazing operation. A heat treating step heat treats the component.

Abstract: An alloy is disclosed, including, by weight, about 13% to about 17% chromium, about 16% to about 20% molybdenum, about 1.5% to about 4% silicon, about 0.7% to about 2% boron, about 0.9% to about 2% aluminum, about 23% to about 27% nickel, about 0.8% to about 1.2% tantalum, and a balance of cobalt. The alloy includes a reduced occurrence of molybdenum silicide Laves phase relative to T800. A welded article is disclosed, including an article and a weld filler deposit joined to the article. The weld filler deposit includes a weld filler material including the alloy. A welding process is disclosed, including applying the weld filler material to the article and forming the weld filler deposit.

Abstract: A brazing tape or preform includes a layer of a brazing material, and a plurality of ceramic members affixed to the layer. The plurality of ceramic members are configured to be removable by a ceramic solvent. The plurality of ceramic members are comprised of a plurality of water-soluble ceramic members. The ceramic solvent used to remove the ceramic members is water. The brazing material is selected from the group comprising, nickel, nickel alloys, cobalt, cobalt alloys, iron, iron alloys, and combinations thereof. The ceramic members comprise, about 60% to about 70% by weight of alumina (Al2O3), about 15% to about 25% by weight of zircon (ZrSiO4) flour, about 5% to about 15% by weight of sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4), and about 5% by weight of sugar. The brazing tape may be configured as a flexible tape, and the brazing preform may be configured as a pre-sintered preform.
