Abstract: A method includes detecting at least one remote vehicle that is within a predetermined distance from the host vehicle, detecting that the light of the remote vehicle that is on, determining a luminous intensity of a light beam emitted by the light of at least one remote vehicle that is within the predetermined distance from the host vehicle, comparing the luminous intensity of the light beam emitted by the light of at least one remote vehicle to a predetermined threshold to determine whether the luminous intensity of the light beam emitted by the light is greater than the predetermined threshold in response to determining the luminous intensity of the light of at least one remote vehicle that is within the predetermined distance from the host vehicle, and dimming at least a portion of the windshield of the host vehicle.

The one or more pixels each include a plurality of moveable members that each have an actuation element for translating the moveable member. The three-dimensional kinetic shape display also includes one or more controllers providing instructions to move the actuation element. The one or more controllers execute instructions to receive data indicating an event related to operation of the vehicle, and in response to receiving data indicating the event, instruct the actuation element to translate the moveable member in a direction that is indicative of the event related to operation of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicle system comprising a steering wheel that includes: i) a hub adapted to be mounted on a steering column of the vehicle system; ii) a steering wheel rim coupled to the hub; and iii) a first control movably coupled to the hub. The first control moves from a first position proximate a first location on the steering wheel rim to a second position proximate a second location on the steering wheel rim. This maintains the first control in proximity to a first hand of a driver as the first hand moves from the first location to the second location on the steering wheel rim. The vehicle system further comprises a control module configured to move the first control from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: A guidance system for a user includes a first haptic device disposed on a first, rightward side and a second haptic device disposed on a second, leftward side of the user. A local controller is disposed on the user to communicate with the first and second haptic devices. A remote server is configured to communicate with the local controller. A vehicle includes a global positioning system sensor, and is in communication with the remote server. The local controller includes a control routine that is executable to determine a desired location of the vehicle, and determine a present location of the user. The control routine guides, via the first and second haptic devices, movement of the user towards the desired location of the vehicle, and indicates, via the first and second haptic devices, arrival of the vehicle at the desired location. The control routine pairs the user with the vehicle.

When the location of a receiving vehicle enters into the geographic boundary, a notification signal in the receiving vehicle is generated to alert an operator of the receiving vehicle to the caution area.

Abstract: A transportation vehicle system, for providing feedback to a user-worn wearable device, including a hardware-based processing unit and a hardware-based computer-readable storage device. The device includes a vehicle-function identification module that, when executed by the processing unit determines that a trigger condition has occurred. The vehicle-function identification module also determines, for responding to the trigger condition, a wearable-communication function including transmitting a vehicle signal to the wearable device. An activation module causes the processing unit to initiate transmitting the vehicle signal to the wearable device. The technology also in various embodiments includes the vehicle storage device, the wearable device, a storage unit of the wearable device, and processes including any of the operations disclosed herein.

Abstract: A situation awareness method can be used to provide information to a vehicle operator via first, second, and third substantially transparent ambient displays that are coupled to a windshield of a vehicle. The situation awareness method includes the following steps: (a) monitoring a physiological state of the vehicle operator; (b) monitoring a vehicle operating parameter of the vehicle; (c) monitoring a vehicle context data; (d) identifying a predetermined physiological condition based on the monitored physiological state of the vehicle operator; (e) identifying a predetermined vehicle operating condition based on the monitored vehicle operating parameter; (f) identifying a predetermined vehicle context condition based on the monitored vehicle context data; (g) adjusting a luminance of the first, second, and third substantially transparent ambient displays based on the identified predetermined physiological condition, the identified predetermined vehicle operating condition; and the identified predetermined vehicle context condition, respectively.
