    摘要: Improvements for an incinerator system including double reburn tunnels, an excitor within a reburn tunnel, a choker for closing off part of a reburn tunnel, a grate near the incinerator's inlet to permit the drying and initial combustion of refuse, an ash scoop which remains out of the water during most of its operation. The use of dual reburn tunnels, along with a damper that permits the closure of at least one of them, permits the efficient and environmentally acceptable utilization of the main incinerator chamber even with minimal refuse contained there. With less refuse, only one reburn unit operates; it will still have sufficient heat and throughput to maintain, with minimal auxiliary fuel, the temperatures needed for complete combustion. An excitor, or solid stationary object placed within the reburn tunnel, permits the retention and reflection of the heat generated by the burning to assure complete combustion of all hydrocarbons within the reburn unit. Additionally, the air utilized in the reburn unit may enter through the excitor for the efficient distribution and concomitant combustion.

    摘要: An apparatus for the thermal decomposition of a fluid toxic substance contained in a gas comprises a cylindrical main combustion chamber and a secondary combustion chamber arranged thereabove. An inlet opening leads into the main combustion chamber at an angle to introduce a stream of the gas containing the toxic substance into the main combustion chamber with an angular momentum, a burner is arranged to direct a flame into the main combustion chamber above the inlet opening for subjecting the gas containing the toxic substance to combustion, and an annular gas stream retaining device is arranged above the burner. This retaining device defines a central opening permitting the stream of gas to pass from the main combustion chamber into the secondary combustion chamber, the central opening having a diameter smaller than that of the cylindrical main combustion chamber, and passages arranged around the central opening, and the retaining device comprises obliquely downwardly directed nozzles for delivering secondary air into the main combustion chamber.

    摘要: A new and improved incinerator steam generation system subjecting to combustion debris such as municipal waste, utilizing the heat derived therefrom to produce steam for steam boiler, electrical generating facilities, heating facility for industrial or commercial plants, and so forth. This is provided with a series of boilers and controls, both manually adjustable and also automatic, whereby the possiblity of fire dangers are minimized, created temperature ranges of boiler gases are constrained to desirable limits, dump stack facilities are automatically controlled as to particular effectiveness for differing types of operating conditions, and where safety features are incorporated to shut down gas flow through the boiler during periods of boiler-water deficiency, excess steam generation relative to demand, and other conditions. Within the furnace area proper the pressure conditions are predetermined and are controlled during operation for desired efficiency, vapor removal, and materials' combustion. Thus, air-entrained particulates are minimized, and combustible gases as produced at the grate areas of the furnace are driven off for later, secondary combustion. Temperature control of resulting gases is maintained.

    摘要: A primary combustion chamber is located above a secondary combustion chamber with a support grate between the two for supporting particulate solid waste fuel to be burned efficiently. Primary air is introduced to the primary combustion chamber with secondary air introduced below the grate into a combustion gas flow to cause complete burning in the secondary combustion chamber. A brick wall screen means of high temperature, corrosion-resistant brick forms the secondary combustion chamber to allow exhaust gaseous product to exit therethrough while screening out ash which can be removed from the combustion area. The gaseous product passed through the screen is then passed to a heat exchanger to utilize part of the heat produced for heating primary and secondary air used in the combustor. The exhaust gas from the heat exchanger can then be put to use in a boiler or other energy producing device.

    摘要: The following disclosure teaches ways and means for incinerating organic materials in a multiple hearth furnace equipped with an afterburner. In the furnace, the wastes are pyrolyzed in an oxygen deficient atmosphere which is regulated to only partially complete the oxidation of the organic substances which are pyrolyzed from the wastes. In the lower part of the furnace fixed carbon is substantially burned. In the afterburner, air is introduced to complete the oxidation of the partially oxidized substances carried by gases and vapors from the furnace. The air supply to the afterburner is controlled so that, at temperatures above a predetermined temperature, the quantity of air introduced is increased with increasing temperatures and is decreased with decreasing temperatures. In other words, the pyrolyzing furnace is caused to operate with a deficiency of air over its operating range, while the afterburner is caused to operate with excess air and the amount of excess air supplied is used to control the operating temperature by quenching.
