Abstract:
A vertical mitering band saw machine utilizes a column integraly formed from steel plate, mounted upon a carriage that is supported by a system of rails and wheels. A unique vise system is provided, as are assemblies for mounting of a blade-carrying pulley so as to permit ready adjustment of blade tension as well as of caster and camber of the pulley.
Abstract:
To cut a workpiece along two different cutting directions, the band saw teeth are set in a first vertical cutting direction by a band saw guide device and then the cutting head (CH) is moved frontward, for instance; thereafter, the band saw teeth are twisted toward a second vertical cutting direction by the same guide device and then the cutting head is moved to-and-fro, for instance. The machine is effectively usable in cutting off a test piece from a large workpiece. To improve the cutting precision, various novel devices are incorporated, such as a balance cylinder (B-CYL) for allowing the cutting head to move up and down smoothly; two back-and-forth cylinders (BF-CYL) for moving the cutting head back and forth in symmetrical pressure application; cutting head fix device (FD); a rigid guide column; band saw holding device (BSH); a slidable small-diameter driven wheel arranged within the cutting head (CH), etc.
Abstract:
A band saw having a controller responsive to sensing signals as to operating parameters of the saw to generate a material distribution profile during a first cut of a piece of bar stock is disclosed. During subsequent cuts, the controller for the band saw operates control circuits for blade cutting force, blade feed rate and blade speed to maintain a desired, usually constant, material cutting rate of the bar stock, notwithstanding changes in bar stock cross section and changes in band saw geometry during the cut. A method is disclosed in which operating parameters are sensed, a distribution profile generated, and the profile employed during subsequent cuts to control the operating parameters for optimum cutting efficiency.
Abstract:
An offset bandsaw uses a drive pulley and a second pulley which is angularly offset from the first drive pulley. A bandsaw blade is formed by twisting the blade 360.degree. before welding the two ends together to form a continuous belt. The combination of the offset rollers and the 360.degree. twist permit the bandsaw blade to follow a more natural path which improves blade life. Rollers may be provided intermediate the drive pulley and top pulley to position the bandsaw blade portions in the same plane. Alternatively one may provide a third or fourth pulley to create a precision saw which can cut tight radii in a workpiece and make sizeable square cuts through stock of any length.
Abstract:
A bandsaw (10) including guide blocks (46,47, & 46',47') arranged to restrict side-to-side movement of the blade (25) of the bandsaw wherein the guide blocks are made of fiber reinforced graphite impregnated phenolic resin material.
Abstract:
A machine for cutting a block of stone material into slabs, comprising a bandsaw provided with a blade movable along a plane of cut and a carriage able to support the block and to cause its approach motion towards the blade. This blade passes over two fly-wheels one of which is driven, mounted on a body which is oscillatable with respect to a base of the saw; the body is provided with a template cooperating with an inclined plane fixed to the base and is alternately movable on this under the thrust of a pair of hydraulic actuators.
Abstract:
A sawing method involving in one direction continuously driven saw blades (1, 2) or saw wheels, according to which two saw blades (1, 2) or saw wheels are arranged in an adjacent position to each other, with associated saw teeths extending in an opposed relationship to each other. The saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels are thereafter caused to perform a continuous movement in opposite directions to each other in the operative direction for each saw blade (1, 2) or saw wheel, whereby same in a common and co-acting operation take up a saw cut in a workpiece. In order to maintain the saw teeths of the saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels separated from each other during a sawing operation, a pneumatical or hydraulical medium under pressure is advantageously supplied against the adjacently located surfaces of the saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels during the sawing operation.
Abstract:
A band saw machine is provided with a fixed and movable blade guide arm which are set apart by a distance which is proportional to the width of workpiece to be cut. A detector mounted on one of the guide arms senses the lateral deviation of the saw blade during cutting and a control circuit outputs a termination signal to shut down the machine when the deviation is larger than a desired maximum value. When a workpiece of a different width is to be cut the guide arms are reset apart by a distance proportional to the width of the new workpiece and a detector is provided which senses the change of distance between the guide arms and outputs a signal to a revising circuit. The revising circuit then revises the maximum value of deviation to be allowed based on the change of distance between the guide arms.
Abstract:
A method for controlling the feeding of a band saw blade in a horizontal band saw machine so that the band saw blade is fed at a uniform optimum cutting rate. A control system is provided for controlling the feeding speed and the driving speed of the band saw blade in such a manner that the ratio of the feeding speed to the driving speed is kept constant during a cutting operation and the ratio of cutting resistance to driving speed is maintained constant to provide a constant cutting power.
