The invention also relates to a process for extracting a generator tube portion remote from the ends of the tube.

Resilient fingers 36 extend from the other end 14 of the body 10 and have integral, generally radially movable retaining surfaces 38 for retaining abutment with an end 58, 58' in a mounting element 50, 50'. The body 10 includes an exterior sealing surface 44 intermediate the ends 12, 14 thereof for cooperation with a seal 46 to seal the interface of the body 10 and the mounting elements 50, 50'.

    摘要: The tube plug comprises a substantially cylindrical sheath closed at one end and having a relatively smooth outer surface and a central cavity. An expandable shell is received within the central cavity of the sheath. An expander member is adapted to expand the shell from within by being axially translated within the shell, the expander member also being adapted to grip the inner surface of the shell to retain the expander member in the expanded position. The outside surface of the shell is preferably provided with a plurality of lands. A second embodiment of the tube plug comprises a sleeve, a closed shell member adapted to be inserted within the sleeve, and an expander member contained within the shell. Upon axial translation of the expander member within the shell, the shell is expanded into contact with the sleeve and the sleeve is expanded into contact with the tube, thereby sealing the tube.

    摘要: A sealable multimetallic sleeve for a rapid repair of a degraded tube caused by a detrimental chemical attack on the outside surface of the tube within and in a vicinity of a tube sheet in a steam generator, and the method for sealably inserting the sleeve in the degraded tube spanning the region of the degradation. The sleeve includes an inner member with equivalent mechanical properties of the degraded tube and an outer member metallurgically bonded to the inner member and resistive to caustic intergranular chemical attack causing tube degradation. The sleeve has an expanded portion at one end for positioning in the tube within the tube sheet and a multiplicity of grooves in and adjacent to the other end of the sleeve and braze material contained in the grooves.

    摘要: The tube plug removal machine removes any type of tube plug by drilling into a plug portion with a tap drill bit, engaging that plug portion with a threaded section of the tap drill bit after the drilled hole has been threaded by a tapping section thereof, and removing a portion of the tube holding the plug in the tube with a counterbore drill bit mounted concentrically about the tap drill bit. A trip pin and trip spline enable the tap drill bit to be automatically disengaged from the motor once the tap drill bit has been threaded into engagement with the plug. The conterbore drill bit is thereafter self-centered with respect to the tube and plug about the now stationary tap drill bit. After a portion of the plug has been removed by the counterbore drill bit, pulling on the tap drill bit will remove the remaining plug portion from the tube.

The apparatus includes a shaft (18) having an enlarged frustoconical head (20) with a collar member (24) surrounding the shaft. The collar has a plurality of flexible fingers (22) extending up therefrom, which are forced radially outwardly into contact with the inner wall of the plug when the head is moved longitudinally outwardly from the plug. Each finger has an end portion which is tapered and forms first (10 degrees) and second (5 degrees) angles on its inner (32) and outer (30) surfaces, respectively; and the frustoconical surface (34) of the enlarged head forms a third angle (15 degrees), with the sum of the first and second angles being equal to the third angle. The end portions of the fingers are thus moved radially outwardly, such that their outer surface lies parallel with the inner surface of the plug and thus, the plug is gripped over a large surface area by the gripping mechanism.

    摘要: The simultaneous straightening and insertion of tubular sleeves into damaged heat exchanger tubes is accomplished by passing a pre-bent tubular sleeve through a bending apparatus utilizing three forming rolls. One of the forming rolls can selectively be moved toward the other two to compensate for varying radii of curvature. The apparatus is equipped with a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder capable of pulling the tubular sleeve through the bending apparatus in incremental steps. By simultaneously straightening and inserting pre-bent tubular sleeves into damaged heat exchanger tubes, the tubular sleeves can be inserted into damaged tubes which are in positions which would otherwise be impossible to be repaired by this method. This method effectively circumvents the proscription of straight tube insertions into damaged heat exchanger tubes from the quarter spherical chamber of the heat exchanger.
