摘要: A wavelet transform (WT) is applied to a data stream of high definition video frames, each comprising one or more data channels digitally representing the same image. A WT is applied to each channel. Visual-quality preserving data filters and data substitution techniques are selectively applied that typically lead to at least 90-to-1 compression of the final encoded video frame. Image edge data is extracted and preserved and image noise is reduced to enhance compressibility. After the first WT, primarily low frequency (LL) image data is retained. With each later WT, more non-LL data is retained. Temporal sequences of LL images that result from the final iteration of the wavelet transform are compressed by means of a chain of invertible differenced images. Any color space can be used. Cross-channel conditional substitution is applicable. Complete multi-resolution scalability is incorporated into the encoded product. Extra-high definition video encoding is also achievable.

摘要: A method of assessing biofilm thickness in a membrane supported biofilm reactor (MSBR) of the type comprising a lumen containing a gas phase, a liquid phase, and a gas permeable membrane providing an interface between the gas and liquid phases, the method comprising the steps of charging the lumen with an inert gas, closing the lumen to establish an initial elevated pressure in the lumen, measuring the rate of change of pressure within the lumen, and correlating the rate of change of pressure (dP/dt) with biofilm thickness. The step of correlating dP/dt with biofilm thickness involves correlating dP/dt with the rate of diffusion of the inert gas (dn/dt), correlating dn/dt with an overall mass transfer coefficient (K), correlating K with the mass transfer coefficient of the biofilm (kB), and correlating kB with the biofilm thickness. Also described is a membrane supported biofilm reactor (MSBR) of the type comprising a gas permeable membrane providing an interface between a lumen containing a gas phase, and a liquid phase, characterized in that the MSBR comprises means for flushing the lumen with an inert gas, means for closing and re-opening the lumen, and means for detecting intra-membrane pressure within the lumen. The means for detecting intra-membrane pressure is provided by a pressure transducer.

摘要: A method for producing microbeads comprising an active component encapsulated within a gelled polymer matrix comprises the steps of providing a suspension of denatured whey protein and an active component, treating the suspension to generate microbeads, and immediately curing the microbeads by acidification. The microbeads are discrete droplets of gelled whey protein having an average diameter in the micron range (for example, from 80 to 500 microns) and which, suitably have a generally spherical shape. The microbeads are capable of surviving passage through the stomach, and delivering the encapsulated active agent in the instestine. Ex-vivo and in-vivo data shows that active agent encapsulated within microbeads retains its functionality upon delivery to the intestine, and that coating of the microcapsules allows targeted delivery of the active agent to the distal part of the intestine.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for providing a leak-proof seal for two-piece capsules containing oil-based liquids or other compositions by a two-stage process. The capsule cap and capsule body are combined by a nitrogen purge instant bonding (NPIB) system. An overlay medium is applied to selected portions of the capsule, including near the seam formed by the interconnection of the capsule cap and capsule body to provide a substantially leak-proof seal. The overlay medium is made from materials that make up the capsule cap and capsule body, including gelatin, starch, cellulose or polysaccharides, among others, which are dispersed in a hydro-alcoholic, aqueous or organic solution. The overlay medium includes additives to impart desired qualities to the capsule and include taste-enhancers, taste-maskers, odor-enhancers and odor-maskers. The additives may include color additives, aroma additives and taste additives.

At least one overlapping image to send the computing device is determined based on said image display window, where the at least one overlapping image is selected from the scaled full images, the plurality of high-resolution tiles, and the plurality of reduced resolution tiles. At least a portion of the at least one overlapping image is sent to the computing device.
