Abstract: An approach is provided for map data updates based on region-specific data turbulence. The approach involves, for example, retrieving historical map data for the map region and segmenting the historical map data into a time series including at least a first time epoch and a second time epoch. The approach also involves calculating a first representative value for the first time epoch based on the historical map data segmented into the first time epoch, and a second representative value for the second time epoch based on the historical map data segmented into the second time epoch. The approach further involves calculating the map data turbulence based on the first representative value and the second representative value.

Abstract: An approach is provided for processing and transmitting sensor data in a bandwidth efficient manner. The approach involves causing, at least in part, a specification of one or more prioritization attributes for one or more sensors associated with at least one transmitting entity. The approach further involves processing and/or facilitating a processing of the one or more prioritization attributes to determine whether to cause, at least in part, (a) a transmission of sensor data associated with the one or more sensors to at least one receiving entity, (b) a caching of the sensor data prior to a batch transmission of the sensor data to the at least one receiving entity, or (c) a combination thereof.

Abstract: A road furniture item or another type of road object is detected by at least one sensor. An associated geographic position associated with the road furniture item or road object is determined. After a predetermined time is reached, the geographic position is compared to a local database. A remote database is updated after the predetermined time is reached and according to the comparison with the local database. In some examples, the data indicative of the road furniture item or the road object is deleted based on a confidence level in the local database.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program products are provided for automatically determining or fine-tuning bus service schedules for bus stops along a route. One example method includes causing reception of GPS data from a plurality of buses or uses from along a transit route, the GPS data comprised of a plurality of location points and associated temporal data, aggregating the location data by route and direction to determine a trip count, causing reception of at least one bus stop location, partitioning the associated temporal data into a number of clusters in accordance with the trip count, calculating a mean arrival time at the at least one bust stop for each cluster, and generating, using a processor, at least one service schedule for the at least one bus stop, wherein the mean arrival time of each cluster represents the service schedule.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses are described for predicting the placement of road signs. A device receives data depicting road signs from multiple vehicles. The device analyzes a detected placement of the road signs and at least one characteristic of a collection of the data. The characteristic describes the road upon which the data was collected, an operation of the vehicle from which the data was collected, or an environment in which the data was collected. The device generates a model that associates values for the detected placement of the road signs with values for the at least one characteristic. The model may be later accessed to interpret subsequent sets of data describing one or more road signs.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for determining an optimal warning distance for a vehicle. For example, the geographic location of the vehicle is received along with a reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. Based on the geographic location, a roadway condition is determined. An optimal warning distance is then determined based on a braking distance of the vehicle and the reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, or a navigation system of the vehicle itself, is alerted to the roadway condition when the vehicle is located at the optimal warning distance.

Abstract: A code for a parking location for a vehicle is identified. The code may be encoded in a scannable image. A processor analyzes the code for metadata for the parking location. The metadata is sent from a mobile device to a parking server along with data indicative of a beginning of a parking duration and/or data indicative of an ending of the parking duration. A parking payment may be calculated based on the parking duration by the mobile device or the parking server. An account for the vehicle may be automatically charged according to the parking payment.
