    摘要: Disclosed herein is covered conductors with a normal to large conductor cross-section area (AWG 5 to AWG 24). The thickness of the coating can be, for example, 0.25 to 8.0 millimeter (mm). Also disclosed are a thermoplastic composition comprising a poly(arylene ether) having an intrinsic viscosity greater than 0.25 dl/g as measured in chloroform at 25° C., a styrenic resin, a polyolefin resin, and optionally a flame retardant, a compatibilizer, or a combination of a flame retardant and a compatibilizer. The coating comprises the thermoplastic composition described above.

    摘要: A composite-forming process includes impregnating a reinforcing structure with a curable composition at a temperature of about 10 to about 40° C. The curable composition includes specific amounts of an epoxy resin, a poly(arylene ether), a solvent, and a curing promoter. The poly(arylene ether) includes, on average, about 1.6 to about 2.4 phenolic hydroxy groups per molecule, and it has a polydispersity index less than or equal to 2.2 and an intrinsic viscosity of about 0.03 to about 0.2 deciliter per gram. These characteristics substantially improve the solubility of the poly(arylene ether) in the curable composition and allow the curable composition to be formed and used at or near room temperature. Composites formed by the process and circuit boards including the composites are also described.

It has an intrinsic viscosity of about 0.04 to about 0.15 deciliter per gram and, on average, about 1.8 to about 2 hydroxyl groups per molecule. The poly(arylene ether) copolymer is enriched in low molecular weight copolymer chains and copolymer chains that include a terminal unit derived from the dihydric phenol.

In addition to the poly(arylene ether), the composition includes a polyolefin component, and a flame retardant composition that includes a metal dialkyl phosphinate and a nitrogen-containing flame retardant but excludes a liquid triaryl phosphate. The polyolefin component can be a polyolefin polymer and/or the polyolefin block of a poly(alkenyl aromatic)-polyolefin block copolymer. The composition is particularly suitable as a replacement for poly(vinyl chloride) in insulation for wire and cable.

    摘要: A covered conductor comprising: a conductor; and a covering comprising a thermoplastic composition and the thermoplastic composition comprises: a poly(arylene ether) having an intrinsic viscosity greater than 0.25 dl/g as measured in chloroform at 25° C., a poly(alkenyl aromatic)polymer, a polyolefin resin and optionally a flame retardant and a compatibilizer, wherein the covered conductor essentially meets the performance requirement of ISO 6722, wherein the covering is disposed over the conductor, wherein the conductor has a cross section that meets as least one of following: (i) American Wire Gauge (AWG) from AWG 56 to AWG 26, (ii) a cross-section area from 0.000122 to 0.128 mm2 (corresponding to AWG 56 to AWG 26 according to ASTM B256-02); (iii) a nominal diameter from 0.0124 to 0.404 mm (corresponding to AWG 56 to AWG 26 according to UL 1581, 4th edition, Table 20.1). The covering of the covered conductor has a thickness from about 0.010 to about 0.85 mm. An automotive wire harness assembly comprises the covered conductor. An “end use equipment” comprises the wire assembly.

The washing method is effective for removal of capping-related impurities, and surprisingly does not result in decomposition of the capped poly(arylene ether).
