摘要: The present disclosure includes a computer-implemented method for filtering out at least one selected ion from an ion beam by the following steps: determining the selected ion with a selected ion mass, selected charge and/or selected mass to charge ratio; determining at least one predefinable region with predefinable ions, whose ion masses, charges and/or mass to charge ratios are greater than or smaller than the selected ion mass, the selected charge and/or the selected mass to charge ratio of the selected ion; isolating the predefinable region of the ion beam along a trajectory of the ion beam, and detecting the predefinable ions within the predefinable region. In addition, the present disclosure includes to a computer program which is configured to perform a method according to the present disclosure and to a computer program product having the computer program.

摘要: In a mass spectrometer employing laser ionization to ionize a sample, a known sample is irradiated with laser light multiple times, and multiple sets of profile data are acquired each of which is a spectrum showing the relationship between the m/z values and intensities of ions generated from the known sample by one laser irradiation (Step S11). Those sets of profile data are sorted into groups so that one or more sets of profile data are included in each group (Step S12). For each group, a peak list is created which describes the m/z value and intensity of each peak originating from the known sample based on the one or more sets of profile data included in the group (Step S13). A discriminant model for discriminating an unknown sample is created using the peak lists of the plurality of groups and information concerning the kind of the known sample as training data.

摘要: Methods and apparatuses for the identification and/or characterization of properties of a sample using mass spectrometry. The method involves using a measured spectrum of data from a sample taken with a mass spectrometer, deconvoluting the measured spectrum of data by applying parsimony weighting to minimize the number of charge states based on one or more of: the number of intense peaks in the mass spectrum; the number of harmonic relationships (e.g., masses in small integer ratios); and the number of off-by-one relationships (e.g., m/z bins with high probability for two adjacent charges). Thus, the underlying m/z spectrum may be inferred from the family of plausible deconvoluted spectra determined by applying parsimony and the inferred m/z spectrum may be used to identify and/or characterize the sample.

摘要: The present invention centers upon a novel “molecular amplification spike,” which is an admixture of two components, namely, an aliquot of a quantity of a molecule, composition, compound or element of interest (an “analyte”) in its natural isotopic state and an aliquot of an isotopically enriched form of the same molecule, composition, compound or element. The molecular amplification spike contains 20% natural-abundance isotope, balance enriched isotope. The molecular amplification spike may optionally contain more than 20% natural-abundance isotope, with concomitantly reduced balance of enriched isotope. Such an admixed spike, when added to a sample prior to mass spectrometric analysis of that sample, creates new and significantly improved percentage of errors and quantification or confirmation of the absence of the molecule, composition, compound or element of interest in the sample.

摘要: An instrument for analyzing ions may include an ion source to generate ions, at least one ion processing instrument to process the generated ions by one or both of filtering the ions according to a molecular characteristic and dissociating the ions, and an electrostatic linear ion trap (ELIT) to receive and trap ions exiting the at least one ion processing instrument. The ELIT has first and second ion mirrors separated by a charge detection cylinder, and is configured such that trapped ions oscillate back and forth through the charge detection cylinder between the first and second ion mirrors with a duty cycle, corresponding to a ratio of time spent by the trapped ions traversing the charge detection cylinder and total time spent by the trapped ions traversing a combination of the first and second ion mirrors and the charge detection cylinder during one complete oscillation cycle, of approximately 50%.
