Abstract:
A process for the lubrication of a tool surface which comprises high pressure blast spraying a powder lubricant having a particle size of 0.6 to 1.5 .mu. at a spray pressure of 4 to 5 bar, onto the tool surface thereby producing a high temperature compacted coherent lubricant film on the surface while simultaneously smoothing, strengthening and compressively stressing the tool surface.
Abstract:
A composite material is described which will provide low friction surfaces for materials in rolling or sliding contact and is self-lubricating and oxidation resistant up to and in excess of about 930.degree. C. The composite is comprised of a metal component which lends strength and elasticity to the structure, a fluoride salt component which provides lubrication and, lastly, a glass component which not only provides oxidation protection to the metal but may also enhance the lubrication qualities of the composite.
Abstract:
The invention concerns the conversion of light alloys.By lubricating the die with a vitreous substance based on alkaline phosphate and alkaline tetraborate, alloys based on aluminium or magnesium can be hot-drawn at speeds of at least 100 meters per minute and up to 300 meters per minute. The invention can be applied to drawing aluminium alloys, particularly those of series 2,000, 5,000 and 7,000.

IMPROVED THERMOSETTING BONDED SOLID LUBRICANTS COMPRISING ESSENTIALLY A POLYMER RESIN OF OVER 90% CARBON AND PEFERABLY POLYPHENYLENE POLYMERS OF AT LEAST ABOUT 94% CARBON BONDING OF SOLID LUBRICANT PARTICULATES, COMPOSITIONS THEREFOR AND METHOD.
Abstract:
SOLID LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS EMPLOYING POLYBENZIMIDAZOLE RESINS (PBI) AND LUBRICATING PIGMENTS ARE PRODUCED BY ADMIXING FINELY DIVIDED LUBRICANT PIGMENTS INTO A SOLUTION OF POLYBENZIMIDAZOLE RESIN AND SOLVENT THEREFOR. FOR EXAMPLE, A SOLID LUBRICANT COMPOSITION IS PRODUCED BY DISSOLVING POWDERED POLYBENZIMIDAZOLE IN N-METHYLPYRROLIDINE TO FORM A SOLUTION OF ABOUT 25 WEIGHT PERCENT SOLIDS TO WHICH IS ADDED ABOUT 75 WEIGHT PERCENT OF THE SOLID LUBRICANT PIGMENT COMPRISING A MIXTURE OF MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE (MOS2) AND ANTIMONY TRIOXIDE (SB2O3). THE RESULTING SLURRY IS SPRAYED ONTO THE SURFACE OF A TEST SPECIMEN AND THE WETTED TEST SPECIMEN IS PLACED INTO AN OVEN WHERE IT IS DRIED AT 200*F. FOR ONE HOUR. IT IS THEN HEATED AT 575*F. FOR ONE HOUR TO EFFECT CROSS-LINKING AND BONDING TO SPECIMEN SURFACE. OTHER SOLID LURBICANT PIGMENTS WHICH MAY BE USED INCLUDE MOLYBDENUM DISELENIDE, GRAPHITE, TUNGSTEN DISULFIDE, TUNGSTEN DISELENIDE AND THE LIKE. ALTERNATIVELY, THE PBI COMPOSITION CAN BE LAMINATED WITH FIBERS OF GLASS, GRAPHITE AND THE LIKE TO MAKE PREFORMED STRUCTURES WHICH CAN BE MACHINED TO FIT AGAINST THE METAL SURFACE TO BE LUBRICATED. FIBER GLASS OR GRAPHITE FIBER REINFORCED BEARING COMPONENTS ARE FORMED UTILIZING THE PBI COMPOSITION AS A BINDER FOR THE FIBERS AS WELL AS FOR THE LUBRICATING PIGMENT.
Abstract:
A grease composition contains a polysiloxane, the organic substituents of which are primarily methyl radicals and C6 to C12 alkyl radicals, a thickener, optionally an amount of a polyether which is sufficient to cause the thickener to disperse into the polysiloxane, but insufficient to deleteriously affect the high temperature properties of the grease, and optionally a sufficient amount of a base to render the grease alkaline. The grease is made by heating together the polysiloxane, the polyether, the thickener and the base to a temperature of about 400*-500* F. after which the grease composition is cooled to room temperature, then milled. The grease composition is used in windshield wiper bearings and drive mechanisms, which are subject to oscillatory motion, often while being flooded with water.
