Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming a ribbon configured for use in forming a honeycomb structure when the ribbon is in a folded state. The ribbon comprises a first edge and a second edge. At least one portion of the first edge is not parallel to at least one portion of the second edge when the ribbon is in an unfolded state.
Abstract:
An optical element includes a first surface, a second surface positioned to face the first surface, and a plurality of reflecting surfaces arrayed in a first region defined by the first surface and the second surface, wherein the reflecting surfaces have a first length in a first direction vertical to the first surface and are arrayed at a pitch in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, light incident on one of the first surface and the second surface is reflected by the reflecting surfaces toward the other surface, and predetermined parameters satisfy predetermined relational formulae representing conditions for ensuring total reflection at the reflecting surfaces and for avoiding total reflection at a light emergent surface.
Abstract:
A gasket assembly (20) and method for forming the gasket assembly (20) for sealing two mating surfaces (46,48) over a complex geometrical contact region. The gasket assembly (20) is formed by a hollow silicone rubber tube (22) having a naturally straight configuration but easily bent into complex configurations without kinking. The tube (22) is filled with a curable liquid rubber compound (30) and then the ends (24,26) of the tube (22) are joined in end-to-end fashion to form a continuous loop. The joined ends (24,26) of the tube (22) can be reinforced with a connector (34,134) and then locally cured on a preliminary operation so that the liquid rubber compound (30) does not escape. The tube (22) is then laid up in a mold (40) having a complex geometrical feature (42) which replicates the complex geometrical contact region of the two mating surfaces (46,48) to be subsequently sealed. With the tube (22) held stationary in the mold form (40), the entrapped liquid rubber compound (30) is cured using a heat source (44) or other suitable curing accelerant. Once fully cured, the core of rubber compound (30′) takes a set in the complex geometrical form, and resists straightening of the tube (22) so as to hold the gasket assembly (20) in the complex geometrical shape required to later seal the mating surfaces (46,48). The tube (22) and core of cured rubber compound (30′) may be selected of materials which possess different durometers.
Abstract:
A radome for housing a radar system comprises a plurality of interconnected curved radome thermoplastic composite material panels, each curved radome thermoplastic composite material panel having a plurality of interconnecting edges, a foam core, an inner skin, an outer skin, and a plurality of three-dimensional fiber bundles tying the inner skin and the outer skin to each other through the foam core, inhibiting delamination. The radome includes a hydrophobic exterior surface that is self-cleaning and requires zero maintenance for 25 years.
Abstract:
An improved pouf or soap-holding lathering and scrubbing device which can conveniently hold a bar of soap and create copious aerated lather when wetted and massaged or manipulated comprises a sheet of mesh material which is formed or folded into a compact mass or arrangement. The sheet is formed or supplied in an endless loop or ring which is then compressed in a direction parallel to the sheet to form a ring of compressed or folded mesh material that has a recess. The compressed ring is then secured in its compressed state by two or more ties. A cord can be threaded through the compressed ring and cinched by an O-ring or other device to enable the cord to hold a bar of soap in the recess.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are sealing solutions for sealing water-soluble films, in particular aqueous mixtures including one or more polymeric solvents such as polyols. Aqueous sealing solutions including a relatively dilute solvent for one or more polymeric components of the water-soluble film (e.g., water-soluble polymeric components thereof, such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH)) can exhibit one or more benefits, including a reduction in dissolution of the film by the sealing solution and an increase in seal strength. Also disclosed are sealed articles formed with the sealing solutions, for example water-soluble packets containing various liquid or solid compositions.
Abstract:
A method for positioning side panels during manufacture of a pant includes positioning the side panels on side panel transfer devices. The side panels move perpendicular to a pant transport plane as the pant is transported in the machine direction and the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices. The side panels can include refastenable fastening components. The method and apparatus can move the fastening components closer together in the cross-machine direction or maintain the fastening components at a constant cross-machine position while the side panels reside on the side panel transfer devices.
Abstract:
A core layer is formed by bonding a plurality of wooden plates together by using an adhesive. The core layer is cut into a predetermined shape having notches. The core layer is placed on a die of a pressing machine by being positioned by using the notches and pins placed on the die. The core layer is press molded to firmly hold the pin by the outer edge of the notch and to harden the adhesive.
Abstract:
A solvent comprising 40 to 100 wt % of 1,3-dioxolane and 0 to 60 wt % of tetrahydrofuran, wherein the solvent further comprises 30 ppm to 800 ppm of an antioxidant, based on the total weight of the solvent, provides a long shelf life with good adhesive strength even after exposure to air. The solvent can be effectively used for labeling of heat-shrinkable polyester-based labels.
