Abstract:
The cable includes a substantially metallic central core (3) and outer strands (2) formed from at least one layer of metal wires (21), particularly steel wires, which are stranded over a core element (22) made from synthetic material, preferably a thermoplastic material, this being with a pitch similar to that of the strands (5,6) with which the core (3) is formed, it being possible for the latter to be entirely metallic or hybrid. These cables are intended particularly for use as a lifting cable, particularly elevator cables, or other multicable installations with transmission by means of adherence.
Abstract:
Steel cables are utilized for reinforcing a wide variety of rubber articles. For instance, pneumatic tires are normally reinforced with steel tire cords. It is important for such reinforcing cables to exhibit good fatigue and corrosion resistance. It has been unexpectedly found that the fatigue and corrosion resistance of such cables can be improved by incorporating syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene into the interstices between the steel filaments in such cables. This invention more specifically relates to a cable for reinforcing rubber articles having improved fatigue and corrosion resistance which is comprised of a plurality of steel filaments and syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene, wherein the syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene is dispersed within interstices between said steel filaments.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a tire steel cord formed of more than three strands twisted together, at least one of the strands being marked so as to formed therein with zig-zagging marked parts which form gaps between strands, rubber accordingly immersing the steel cord into its center part through the thus formed gaps so as to fill in a cavity in the center part of the steel cord.
Abstract:
A high-elongation composite cord used for reinforcing a rubber composite such as a wheel tire and a conveyor belt. It is made by twisting a plurality of strands each made by twisting a plurality of brass-plated steel filaments and monofilaments of organic fiber. Before twisting the cord, monofilaments of organic fiber are put in the gaps formed between the adjacent strands so as to prevent fluidized rubber from penetrating into a center core formed in the cord after the cord has been covered with rubber. The monofilaments should have a diameter small enough not to protrude from a circle circumscribing the cord and large enough to close the gaps between the adjacent strands.
Abstract:
An open type metal cord has a plurality of cord units each constituted by at least one preformed metal wire member. The wire members within a given cord unit have the same preforming ratio but have a different ratio from that of the wire members within another cord unit. A difference between the largest preforming ratio and the smallest preforming ratio in cord units falls within the range of 0.20 to 0.40. In this case, the maximum preforming ratio possible for the wire members is 1.65 and the minimum preforming ratio possible for the wire members is 1.05. A total number of wire members constituting a metal cord according to the present invention is 3 to 5.
Abstract:
A composite cord used in the reinforcement of pneumatic tires is composed of a plurality of twisted steel strands cabled around a multifilament core.
