Abstract: An approach is provided for traffic sign learning. The approach involves, for example, receiving a plurality of traffic sign observations generated using sensor data collected from a plurality of vehicles. Each of the plurality of traffic sign observations includes location data and sign property data for an observed traffic sign corresponding to said each of the plurality of traffic sign observations. The approach also involves clustering the plurality of traffic speed sign observations into at least one cluster based on the location data and the sign property data. The approach further involves determining a learned sign for the at least one cluster, and determining a learned sign value indicated by the learned sign based on the location data, the sign property data, or a combination of the plurality of traffic sign observations aggregated in the at least one cluster.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product is provided, for example, for identifying a type of road sign. The method may include receiving a plurality of observations for the road sign. The method may also include clustering the plurality of observations based on at least a location and a heading of the road sign. Further, the method may include filtering the plurality of observations in the cluster based on a speed value and a lateral offset of each of the plurality of observations. Also, the method may include identifying the type of the road sign based on the filtering.

Abstract: An approach is provided for detecting a presence of a physical divider on a road segment. The approach, for example, involves determining a number of positive observations of the physical divider on the road segment based on sensor data collected from one or more vehicles traveling the road segment. The approach also involves determining a number of negative observations of the physical divider on the road segment based on the sensor data. The approach further involves calculating a probability of the presence of the physical divider based on the number of the positive observations and the number of the negative observations. The approach further involves updating map data for the road segment to indicate the presence of the physical divider based on determining that the probability of the presence of the physical divider is greater than a threshold value.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for determining an optimal warning distance for a vehicle. For example, the geographic location of the vehicle is received along with a reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. Based on the geographic location, a roadway condition is determined. An optimal warning distance is then determined based on a braking distance of the vehicle and the reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, or a navigation system of the vehicle itself, is alerted to the roadway condition when the vehicle is located at the optimal warning distance.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program products are provided for grouping a plurality of vehicles together into a platoon and using navigation and other available data to optimize the efficiencies of operating the vehicles together as a platoon. Methods may include receiving a first trip request including a first vehicle identification, trip destination, and associated preferences; receiving a second trip request including a second vehicle identification, trip destination, and associated preferences; and generating a platooning plan including assignment of platoon leader to the first vehicle identification and a joining location where a vehicle of the first vehicle identification is to form a platoon with a vehicle of the second identification. Methods may include joining the first vehicle and the second vehicle in a secure vehicle-to-vehicle communication session.

Abstract: An approach is provided for prioritizing notification to one or more vehicles based on the ranking of one or more road links. The approach involves determining one or more road links that are associated with at least one curvature value greater than at least one curvature threshold value. The approach also involves determining humanized speed information and speed limit information for the one or more road links. The approach further involves processing and/or facilitating a processing of the at least one curvature value, the humanized speed information, and the speed limit information to determine danger level information for the one or more road links. The approach also involves causing, at least in part, a ranking of the one or more road links based, at least in part, on the danger level information. The approach further involves causing, at least in part, a prioritization of one or more notifications to one or more vehicles approaching or traveling the one or more road links based, at least in part, on the ranking of the one or more road links.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile device (e.g., a smartphone) is utilized to determine whether a user has paid for parking. The mobile device collects sensor data that describes actions of a mobile device or actions of an automobile or of a driver of the automobile. The sensor data includes one or more of location data, acceleration data, rotational data, or audio data. Either the mobile device or a centralized server performs an analysis of the sensor data to determine data indicative of a pay status of the parking spot. The pay status indicates whether the user has likely paid for parking. The mobile device or the centralized server is configured to generate a message based on the data indicative of the pay status of the parking spot.

Abstract: First probe data for a first probe type and second probe data for a second probe type are received and stored. A relationship between the first probe type and the second probe type is determined based on at least a portion of the first probe data and at least a portion of the second probe data. The relationship is categorized based on a property of the travel conditions under which the at least a portion of the first probe data and the at least a portion of the second probe data were collected. First real-time probe data for the first probe type is received. The first real-time probe data is converted into second real-time probe data based on the relationship.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods are provided for determining the geographic location of an end-user device (e.g., vehicle, mobile phone, smart watch, etc.). An end-user device may collect a depth map at a location in a path network. Feature geometries may be obtained from a fingerprint database in proximity to the location in the path network. The depth map may be oriented with the feature geometries of the fingerprint. Control points from an extracted feature geometry in the depth map may be compared with control points within the fingerprint. Match rates may be calculated based on the comparison, and a geographic location of the end-user device may be determined when an overall match rate exceeds a minimum threshold value.
