Abstract:
A coated article, a coating for protecting an article, and a method for protecting an article are provided. The article comprises a metallic substrate and a substantially single-phase coating disposed on the substrate, wherein the coating comprises nickel (Ni) and at least about 30 atomic percent aluminum (Al); the coating further comprises a gradient in Al composition, the gradient extending from a first Al concentration level at an outer surface of the coating to a second Al concentration level at an interface between the substantially single-phase coating and the substrate, wherein the first Al concentration level is greater than the second Al concentration level and the second concentration level is at least about 30 atomic percent Al.
Abstract:
A method of providing turbulation on the inner surface of a passage hole (e.g., a turbine cooling hole) is described. The turbulation is first applied to a substrate which can eventually be inserted into the passage hole. The substrate is often a bar or tube, formed of a sacrificial material. After the turbulation is applied to the substrate, the substrate is inserted into the passage hole. The turbulation material is then fused to the inner surface, using a conventional heating technique. The sacrificial substrate can then be removed from the hole by various techniques. Related articles are also described.

Methods for repairing and manufacturing a gas turbine airfoil, and the airfoil repaired and manufactured with such methods are presented with, for example, the repair method comprising providing an airfoil having specified nominal dimensions, the airfoil comprising a first material, the first material having a creep life and a fatigue life, the airfoil further comprising a leading edge section and a trailing edge section; removing at least one portion of at least one section of the airfoil to create at least one deficit of material for the airfoil relative to the specified nominal dimensions, the at least one section selected from the group consisting of the leading edge section and the trailing edge section; providing at least one insert comprising a second material, the second material having a creep life that is at least substantially equal to the creep life of the first material, and a fatigue life that is at least substantially equal to the fatigue life of the first material; and disposing the at least one insert onto the airfoil such that the at least one deficit of material is substantially eliminated.
Abstract:
A dry vacuum pump assembly that includes a casting having an inner chamber, an inlet and an outlet communicating with the inner chamber, a pair of right and left handed screw rotors positioned in the casing, each screw rotor having a cross section formed by a Quimby curve, a circular arc, and a quasi-Archimedean spiral curve, the pair of screw rotors intermeshing with each other to pump a process gas pumped from the inlet to the outlet. The pump assembly further includes a nitrogen-supplying tube that communicates with the inner chamber at a position near the outlet in the casing, and an external pipe that connects the outlet to a scrubber or a trap which external pipe is straight and does not include a silencer.

A blisk combining gas turbine blades and disk in a single structure comprises a disk and a number of blades integrally affixed to the disk. Each blade includes an airfoil made at least in part of an open-cell solid ceramic foam formed of ceramic cell walls, and an intracellular volume therebetween. The ceramic cell walls are preferably alumina, and the intracellular volume is preferably filled at least in part with a nickel-base superalloy. Another portion of the intracellular volume may be empty porosity.

The ring grooves are separated by ring lands. The piston also includes a piston rod connecting portion that extends from the crown portion. The piston is made of steel and includes an electroless coating of nickel having a maximum thickness of 8 micrometers.
Abstract:
A rotary vane pumping machine have a core structure and peripheral components interfacing with the core structure. The core structure includes a stator assembly defining a contoured surface of a stator cavity, a rotor spinning around a rotor shaft axis that is fixed relative to the stator cavity, and end plates disposed on either side of the rotor. The rotor has a plurality of radial vanes slots for housing a corresponding plurality of vanes that slide within the radial vane slot of the rotor. The plurality of vanes, stator cavity and rotor define a plurality of chamber cells. The core structure is substantially made of low coefficient of thermal expansion Invar materials to achieve precise non-contact sealing clearances between components of the machine.
