Abstract:
A method for fabricating scanning probe microscopy (SPM) probes is disclosed. The probes are fabricated by forming a structural layer on a substrate, wherein the substrate forms a cavity. A sacrificial layer is located between the substrate and the structural layer. Upon forming the structural layer, the sacrificial layer is selectively removed, and the probe is then released from the substrate. The substrate may then later be reused to form additional probes. Additionally, a contact printing method using a scanning probe microscopy probe is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A system and method for dispensing liquid coating patterns of varying width. The system uses a film coater, a liquid supply coupled in fluid communication with the film coater and configured to supply liquid to the film coater under pressure, and a liquid pressure regulator operatively connected to the coater. The liquid pressure regulator selectively adjusts the pressure of the liquid supplied to the film coater and is operated by pressurized air. A selector valve is coupled to the liquid pressure regulator. First and second air pressure regulators are coupled to the selector valve and can selectively deliver air at first and second pressures to the selector valve. The selector valve is moved between first and second positions for selectively delivering air under either the first pressure or the second pressure to the liquid pressure regulator to thereby cause the liquid to be delivered to the film coater at different pressures to change the width of the dispensed pattern.
Abstract:
A method for dispensing a flowable substance, such as a flowable photoresist, on a microelectronic substrate. The method can include dispensing a portion of the flowable substance on the microelectronic substrate, receiving an image of at least some of the flowable substance on the microelectronic substrate, and, (with reference to the image), comparing a characteristic of the image with a pre-selected characteristic, or comparing a time required to dispense the portion of the flowable substance with a pre-selected, or both. The method can further include adjusting a characteristic of the dispense process when the image differs from the pre-selected image by at least a predetermined amount, or when the time differs from the pre-selected time by at least a predetermined amount, or both.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a combination (10) of a lid (12) of a metallic material and a metallic housing (14) that can be screwed together. In order that the screwed connection (16) remain releasable even under adverse conditions, the lid (12) and/or the housing (14) is provided at at least one preselected surface portion, especially in the area of its screw thread, with a coating (18) that prevents corrosive seizure of the thread. The invention also concerns a method for manufacturing such a lid, or housing, as the case may be.
Abstract:
A process for forming a patterned thin film structure on a substrate is disclosed. A pattern is printed with a material, such as a masking coating or an ink, on the substrate, the pattern being such that, in one embodiment, the desired thin film structures will be formed in the areas where the printed material is not present, i.e., a negative image of thin film structure to be formed is printed. In another embodiment, the pattern is printed with a material that is difficult to strip from the substrate, and the desired thin film structures will be formed in the areas where the printed material is present, i.e., a positive image of the thin film structure is printed. The thin film material is deposited on the patterned substrate, and the undesired area is stripped, leaving behind the patterned thin film structures.
Abstract:
Upon a substrate subsequent layers of elastic ink are jetted using an ink jet printing system. Each layer is immobilised by a immobilisation step before jetting the following layer. A printing relief is gradually formed to obtain a flexographic printing plate allowing accurate control over the relief and slopes of the printing plates. Use can be made of different inks or immobilisation step to obtain different layer characteristics. Inks can be immobilised using UV curing. The recorded relief of the layers can be measured and corrections can be applied using a feed-back loop. A rejuvenation process for printing plates can be constructed using the described method. An elastic base layer can be provided on the substrate to provide better plate characteristics.
Abstract:
A method of producing a finish for a selected wood substrate, wherein the finish provides the selected wood substrate with a color that matches the color of a target object. In accordance with the method, calculations are performed to determine the quantities of at least one group of colorants required to produce a semitransparent wood stain from a vehicle, wherein when the semitransparent wood stain is applied to the selected wood substrate, the selected wood substrate will have a color that matches the target object. The calculations are performed using reflectance measurements of the target object obtained using a spectrophotometer and previously obtained spectral data of the colorants as applied to at least one type of wood. The colorants used to form the semitransparent wood stain do not include a white colorant.
Abstract:
A kit and a process for using it to impart wood grain appearances are provided. According to the method, an opaque, pigmented, water-based paint/stain emulsion is applied to a wood-grain textured substrate and dried. Then, a pigmented, water-based graining coat water-based graining coat (most preferably a self-crosslinked urethane/acrylic) is applied sparingly, preferably by spraying from a small bottle, in an amount sufficient to color at least a majority of texture recesses in the substrate and drying. According to the kit aspect of the invention, the kit will comprise: an opaque, pigmented, water-based paint/stain emulsion; a pigmented, water-based graining coat emulsion, packaged in a spray bottle. Optionally, the kit can include a surface cleaner, a scraper, brush and/or cloth.
Abstract:

One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for transferring a patterned polyelectrolyte multilayer from a first surface, e.g., a PDMS stamp, to a second surface, e.g. fabric or a non-woven material. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a stamp comprising a surface coated with a polyelectrolyte multilayer suitable for transfer to a substrate using the aforementioned method of transferring patterned multilayers.
