Abstract:
Heterogeneous oxygen-scavenging particles are formed by dry coating activating component particles onto oxidizable component particles, largely through a succession of mechanical motions. The component particles are repeatedly mixed, compressed, and sheared. Smaller activating component particles coat the surface of larger oxidizing component particles by force-induced contact, while irregularities are removed by abrasion among the particles. The oxygen-scavenging particles can be blended together with a base polymer into a masterbatch having a higher concentration than required for use as an active barrier to oxygen permeation. The masterbatch can be diluted with the same or a compatible polymer to form the active barrier.

Abstract:
The invention relates to improved resin bonded sorbent compositions and articles of manufacture fabricated therewith, such as air conditioning and refrigeration components. The introduction of desiccants into resinous molding compositions enables the elimination of more conventional bagged desiccant containments. The novel molding compositions of the invention and parts fabricated therewith are multi-functional, beneficially combining structural, mechanical and adsorptive capabilities without requiring the usual reinforcing additives. Consequently, with the omission of reinforcing additives the novel molding compositions of the invention are further characterized by higher moisture adsorptive capacities by allowing for higher sorbent loading factors than prior adsorbent-containing molding compositions.
Abstract:
An oxygen-absorbing composition including iron and a soluble tartrate. A method of absorbing oxygen from a closed environment including the steps of providing an oxygen-absorbing composition containing iron and a tartrate, injecting water into the composition, and placing the composition into the closed environment. An oxygen-absorbing packet containing iron and a tartrate. All of the foregoing-mentioned compositions preferably include an electrolyte. The tartrates may be selected from the group which may include solium acid tartrate, potassium acid tartrate, potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate and sodium tartrate dihydrate, but are not limited thereto.
Abstract:
A pressed sorbent form includes a sorbent and a binder. The sorbent is chosen from the group including silica gel, molecular sieve, activated carbon, and clay. The binder is powdered ethyl vinyl acetate.
Abstract:
A hydrocarbon adsorber and a thermoplastic resin combined and formed to a porous scavenger for insertion into the air intake system of a motor vehicle engine. The resulting porous scavenger adsorbs volatile hydrocarbon molecules from raw fuel remaining in the air intake when the engine is shut off. The adsorbed molecules are then stripped or purged from the scavenger and reintroduced into the air intake when the engine is next started.
Abstract:
An adsorbent form consisting of a pressed blend of powdered adsorbent and powdered resin. A method of fabricating a pressed adsorbent form consisting of the steps of forming a blend of powdered adsorbent and powdered resin, and compressing said blend to form a self-sustaining form.
Abstract:
