Abstract:
A method of using heat-resistant hollow sphere polymers having at least on crosslinked polymer stage, and having a core stage that has been swollen with a volatile base, in applications in which the hollow sphere polymer is exposed to temperatures of from 100° C. to 350° C., is provided. Articles made by the method are also provided.
Abstract:
Compositions are disclosed that are processable into capstocks having a reduced gloss appearance, high impact strength and superior weatherability. The capstocks described herein are especially useful for extrusion into articles. They are also useful for application to various poor weathering structural plastic articles for preparing multilayered composites having improved weatherability. Methods for manufacturing structural plastic capstocks and composites and articles produced therefrom having reduced gloss appearance are also described.
Abstract:
A novel coating composition, exhibiting improved adhesion to anionic substrates and a process for its preparation and use, is disclosed. The coating contains an aqueous dispersion of a cationic polymeric binder. The polymeric binder is preferably prepared by the polymerization of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, having amine functionality, in the presence of at least one nonionic or amphoteric surfactant, followed by the subsequent neutralization of the polymer using selected acids. Coatings containing the cationic latex polymeric binder and selected cationic pigment dispersants are provided. In addition, by selecting certain process conditions and reactive pigments, completely cationic aqueous coating compositions, which maintain the advantages of a water-based system while exhibiting excellent stain blocking, corrosion resistance, water sensitivity resistance and adhesion to wood and alkyd surfaces, and which are competitive in their performance with conventional solvent based alkyd primers and paints, are disclosed.
Abstract:
Binder, coating, and adhesive compositions having surprising film build, flow, leveling, and adhesive wet tack are provided by an aqueous dispersion comprising polymer particles having a central core surrounded by lobes. Also disclosed are the uses and process of preparation of these unique particles.
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shielding composition includes a carrier, a plurality of metal nanowires, and a plurality of nanoparticles. The plurality of metal nanowires are dispersed within the carrier and are in an amount of from 1 to 95 percent by weight of the electromagnetic shielding composition. The plurality of nanoparticles are dispersed within the carrier and are in an amount of from 0.5 to 60 percent by weight of the electromagnetic shielding composition.
Abstract:
Aqueous-form additive systems, and methods of blending the same with a matrix resin, are disclosed whereby acrylic-based impact modifier compositions, butadiene-based impact modifier compositions and acrylic-based processing aids are used in aqueous form without the need for isolation to the traditional powder-form. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention provide a means for the design of novel additive compositions. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention also provide a great degree of flexibility in preparation of matrix resin blends and formulations. Additionally, the aqueous additive systems of the present invention allow for the reduced cost of manufacturing additives and reduced cost in blending matrix resin formulations.
