    Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining the relative position between the point of impingement of an electron beam on a work surface and the seam between parts to be welded. The seam is scanned by oscillating a low power electron beam along a path transverse to the scan. The variation in secondary electrons generated as the beam traverses the seam is detected and amplified. The amplified signal is then acted upon by an electronic converter which converts the wave form by instantaneously taking the Nth root at each point of the curve representing the wave form of the amplified secondary electron current wave form so as to improve the resolution of the signal and make possible an improved definition at the point of impingement of the beam with respect to the seam.

    Abstract: A compact modular multifunctional inhalation device including a housing having an inlet port and an outlet port; a removable cartridge module adapted to seat within the housing, the cartridge including: a tray within the cartridge for holding a solid inhalant, a heating element mounted within the cartridge above and through the tray for heating the inhalant; and a removable modular electronic circuit adapted to seat within the housing to provide electrical current to the heating element. The heating element is a coil mounted within a chamber in thermal proximity to the solid inhalant. A quartz rod is mounted within the coil. A plunger is mounted within the cartridge to translate therein and compact the solid inhalant. In an alternative embodiment, dual channels and outlet ports are mounted in communication with an inlet port. In another embodiment, the cartridge is a split chamber cartridge with a split plunger mounted therein. Yet another embodiment features a measurement glass cover gauge mounted on the cartridge.

    Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) excited laser assembly includes a pair of opposed electrodes defining an inter-electrode gap and a conductive termination bridge in electrical contact with both electrodes. The termination bridge mechanically supports and positions the electrodes relative to each other and provides a termination impedance for an RF voltage applied to the electrodes. A conical spiral inductor includes one or more metals windings, and one or more concentric terminals, such that the conical spiral inductor defines an inter-winding spacing sufficient to mitigate ionization of a gas medium between windings. A radio frequency (RF) feed-through assembly configured to apply an RF voltage to a pair of opposing electrodes such that a conductor is isolated from a metal sleeve position around the conductor by ion sheath discharge barrier.

    Abstract: A method of automatic drilling of a well with coil tubing or drill pipe tubing utilizes AC motors coupled to variable frequency drives controlled by a programmable logic controller. For example, a coil tube injector is supported in a mast for injecting coil tube from a reel and into a wellbore for drilling the wellbore. The AC motors for the injector are driven for controlling a rate of injection of coil tube by the injector for maintaining at least one drilling parameter such as weight-on-bit, differential mud pressure or rate of penetration. The AC motor for the reel is also controlled for driving the reel and maintaining a relative rate of coil tube supplied from the reel to the injector. Drawworks and a top drive supported by the draworks can also be equipped with AC motors and variable frequency drives for controlling a drilling rate for maintaining at least one of the drilling parameters.
