Abstract:
The invention provides a compressor for use as a secondary compressor for an ethylene polymerization tubular reactor comprising a motor and at least two compressor frames, at least one of the compressor frames being coupled to the motor by means of a contoured diaphragm flexible coupling.
Abstract:
A test apparatus for measuring the air entrainment characteristics of a fluid includes a reservoir for containing the fluid, an aerator apparatus to cause air entrainment of the fluid, and a density meter to measure the effects of air entrainment on fluid density. The test apparatus enables in-situ measurement of the transient air entrainment behavior of the fluid. A corresponding method is provided.
Abstract:
A filter for filtering particulate matter (PM) from exhaust gas emitted from a compression ignition engine, which filter comprising a porous substrate having inlet surfaces and outlet surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated with a wash coat comprising a plurality of solid particles comprising a molecular sieve promoted with at least one metal wherein the porous structure of the wash coated porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, and wherein the second mean pore size is less than the first mean pore size.
Abstract:
Hydrocarbon traps used to trap then release unburned hydrocarbons upon startup of a spark ignition internal combustion engine are sensitive to degradation if exposed to normal temperature exhaust gases. On board diagnostics of HC traps are provided by the invention, by incorporating a heat sensitive oxygen storage material in the HC trap material, and using conventional determination of OSC efficiency to determine if the HC trap material has been exposed to excessive temperature.

Abstract:
A punch press alignment instrument has upper and lower cylindrical components that are associated for vertical displacement relative to one another. Both components have outer tool holder engaging surfaces which are to be aligned with one another so as to in turn align the tool holders of the punch press when the upper and lower components themselves are in alignment. Alignment elements, e.g., ridges and grooves provided on mating surfaces of the components confronting each other are brought into contact with one another to move the components of the instrument into mutual alignment. An alignment control member, e.g., a screw is preferably provided for progressively bringing the upper and lower components toward one another and an indicator such as a lamp, a dial indicator or an audible indicator is provided for denoting the spacing between the upper and lower components to thereby confirm the alignment of the tool holders. A releasable element is used to temporarily hold the upper and lower components apart when they are spaced laterally from one another or for any reason are not capable of being placed in alignment.
Abstract:
There is provided in accordance with the present invention a seat belt retractor comprising a spool for carrying seat belt webbing rotatably mounted about a longitudinal axle and biased in a seat belt webbing rewinding direction, a toothed ratchet wheel mounted to rotate with the spool, a sensor for detecting an emergency condition, a vehicle acceleration sensor lever responsive to the sensor to engage the ratchet wheel in the event of an emergency condition, means for locking the spool against pay-out of seat belt webbing in response to the vehicle acceleration sensor lever engaging the ratchet wheel, the retractor being adapted to operate in a first, emergency locking mode in which the spool is not locked and can rotate to pay-out and to rewind seat belt webbing. In a second, automatic locking mode in which the spool is locked against pay-out of the seat belt webbing and means for switching between the first mode and the second mode, wherein, the switching means comprises a subassembly attached to a first end of said seat belt retractor, the subassembly having a housing, a plurality of annular axially adjacent disks mounted on a rotatable eccentric cam connected to said housing characterized by an axially directed spring biasing member to reduce axial spacing between said housing, eccentric cam and said plurality of annularly adjacent disks.

Abstract:
An apparatus for laminating a glass sheet assembly includes a first glass sheet arranged in an opposing parallel configuration with respect to a second glass sheet, with a heat sensitive layer of adhesive laminating film disposed between the first glass sheet and the second glass sheet, the glass sheet assembly having a leading edge and a trailing edge and being of a fixed length and width, the laminating film having a bonding temperature at which melting of the laminating film is initiated. The apparatus includes a heating chamber configured to heat the glass sheet assembly, the heating chamber including an array of heating elements to cause differential heating along the length of the glass sheet assembly such that the temperature at the leading edge of the glass sheet assembly is higher than the temperature at the trailing edge of the glass sheet assembly with uniform heating across the width of the glass sheet assembly, and a pressing station configured to press the first and second glass sheets toward each other to purge air or moisture from the glass sheet assembly until the first and second glass sheets adhere together via the adhesive laminating film, where the pressing at the pressing station is initiated at the leading edge of the glass sheet assembly when the temperature of the laminating film at the leading edge of the glass sheet assembly reaches the bonding temperature of the laminating film.
