An apparatus and process for forming an array of powder samples arranged in predefined locations where all samples have a flat surface in a common plane has been developed. A monolithic block having a main support section having at least N perforations from a first surface of the main support through a second surface of the main support in predefined locations, where N is the number of samples in the array is provided. The monolithic block also has a flat support section covering the perforations of the main support section. All N samples are loaded simultaneously with sample X in perforation X of the main support where X is an integer from 1 to N. A flat surface of each sample where the flat surfaces are a common plane is formed by forcing the samples within the perforations against the flat support. The samples are retained in position within the perforations against the flat support, and are made ready for analysis since the flat surfaces of the samples are in predefined locations and are all in a common plane.

A multi-test assembly for evaluating, detecting and monitoring processes at elevated pressure is described. The Mufti-test assembly has a pressure vessel equipped with trays or plates with a multitude of individual test cells, an optional lid for sealing the cells, and a system for the detection and/or monitoring of the processes in each individual test cell, in situ. Uses of the invention are detection of solid structure formation or phase transformation in, for example, hydrocarbon systems or mixtures of hydrocarbon and water, and also in an automated test which is optimized simultaneously with regard to several test parameters in the testing of inhibitors for gas hydrate formation. The multi-test assembly has built-in systems for pressure and temperature control. The assembly may also be connected to a set-up for the automatic dosing of reagents.

The invention relates to a multi-autoclave and details of its design, a method for automated synthesis of zeolites in the multi-autoclave, and furthermore, to applications of the multi-autoclave for an automated synthesis which is optimized simultaneously with regard to several synthesis parameters in the synthesis of zeolites. The multi-autoclave consists typically of a pressure vessel/autoclave having from 10 to 10,000 small, separated chambers lined with an inert material, with each chamber typically having a volume of 0.2-2 ml. The chambers preferably are formed as through-going perforations in a central block and the perforations are sealed by balls, septa, stoppers or such which are placed at the bottom and top of each through-going perforation. Metal plates are placed over and under the central block so that a closing mechanism is pressed against the edges of the perforations with sufficient load to enable the chambers to be filled with aqueous mixtures and to be heated to 200° C. without the occurrence of leakage. Top and bottom plates and closing mechanisms can be integrated so that all the perforations are sealed simultaneously when these are placed at the top and bottom sides of the central block.

The present invention concerns zeolitic cation exchangers consisting of expanded ceramic, zeolitic pellets with macro- and microporosity, in the form of sintered, light, expanded clay aggregates which are partly transformed to zeolite by means of hydrothermal treatment with an alkaline solution for a period of at least 2 hours at a temperature of between 50 and 300 degrees C. The invention also concerns a procedure for producing said cation exchangers, and applications of the same as ion exchangers and adsorbents.
