    Abstract: A detecting unit is presented. The detecting unit includes a flexible circuit having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The flexible circuit includes a plurality of cells defined therein, each of the plurality of cells having a first side and a second side respectively corresponding to the first side and the second side of the flexible circuit. Moreover, the flexible circuit includes a plurality of conductive windings disposed on at least one of the first and second sides of the plurality of cells. Further, the flexible circuit includes a stress reduction feature between each of the plurality of cells. Also, the detecting unit includes a sealing element configured to secure the flexible circuit in a stacked configuration. A sensing system and a method of making a detecting unit are also presented.

    Abstract: A vehicle includes a gas turbine engine having at least two spools and an associated power system. The power system includes two independent power subsystems, including a first power subsystem for managing power transfer between spools and a second power subsystem for supplying a base power load to the vehicle. The first power subsystem has a first electric machine mechanically coupled with a first spool of the gas turbine engine and a second electric machine mechanically coupled with a second spool. The second electric machine is electrically coupled with the first electric machine such that electrical power is transmittable therebetween. The second power subsystem has a third electric machine mechanically coupled with one of the spools. The third electric machine is electrically coupled with a load positioned offboard the gas turbine engine. The first power subsystem and the second power subsystem are electrically decoupled from one another.

    Abstract: A direct current circuit breaker includes main circuit for carrying a main-path current, and a transient circuit for carrying a transient-path current. The main circuit includes a first solid state switch and a main contactor. The first solid state switch is coupled in series with the main contactor. The transient circuit is coupled in parallel with the main circuit. The transient circuit includes an auxiliary contactor coupled in series with a second solid state switch. The second solid state switch closes when the main-path current exceeds a first threshold. The first solid state switch then opens. The main contactor opens when the main-path current falls below a second threshold. Then the second solid state switch opens. The auxiliary contactor opens when the transient-path current falls below the second threshold and after the second solid state switch opens.

    Abstract: A circuit breaker device includes plural bridges conductively coupled parallel to each other between plural terminals that are configured to be conductively coupled with a power source and a load. The bridges include first and second outer bridges each having plural switches and at least an impedance bridge. The switches of the first and second outer bridges are configured to be closed to conduct electric current between the power source and the load and at least one switch in each of the first and second outer bridges are configured to be opened while at least one other switch in each of the first and second outer bridges are configured to remain closed to prevent conduction of the electric current between the power source and the load and to direct the electric current into the impedance bridge.
