摘要: A device for making an adjustably sized incision in skin. The device comprises a housing having a slotted opening; a blade disposed within the housing for making an incision in skin; a blade triggering mechanism disposed within the housing, for propelling the blade through the slotted opening of the housing a given distance to make an incision of a predetermined size in the skin; and incision size adjusting mechanism associated with the housing for selectively adjusting the size of the incision. The incision size adjusting mechanism includes a cam disposed within the housing, the cam being manually movable relative to the housing for allowing the size of the incision to be adjusted by variably limiting the given distance the blade is propelled through the slotted opening of the housing according to the cam's position relative to the housing. In one embodiment, the cam adjusts the size of the incision by varying the incision's depth into the skin to produce blood sample volumes which are selectively increased or decreased according to a selected depth of the incision. This feature makes the device especially suitable for making skin incisions in adults or children. In another embodiment, the cam adjusts the size of the incision by varying the incision's depth into the skin and the incision's length in the skin to produce blood sample volumes which are selectively increased or decreased according to a selected depth and length of the incision. This feature makes the device especially suitable for making skin incisions in infants and toddlers.

摘要: A blood sampling and transferring device including a disposable auto-pricking lancet and a reservoir integrated together for creating a skin incision and collecting a blood sample therefrom in a one-step operation. The reservoir is preferably funnel shaped with a large opening at one end for receiving the blood sample from the patient, and a small opening at the other end which is small enough to prevent unassisted passage of the collected blood therethrough. The blood sample can then be temporarily stored until such time as the sampling device is engaged with a blood testing device that has an aperture to accommodate the small opening of the reservoir and a pump to draw the blood from the reservoir for testing.

摘要: A valve comprises a first rigid layer having a substantially planar first surface, a second rigid layer having a substantially planar second surface facing the first surface and a substantially planar third surface opposite the second surface and a flexible layer positioned between the first and second surfaces. A valve chamber is demarcated by a concave surface in the substantially planar first surface and one surface of the flexible layer and at least one first fluid passageway in the first rigid layer opens into the valve chamber at the concave surface to alternatively apply a vacuum and pressure thereto. A fluid chamber is demarcated by another surface of the flexible layer and a concave-convex surface in the substantially planar second surface which comprises an inner circular convex portion and a concentric annular outer concave portion. At least two second fluid passageways in the second rigid layer open into the valve chamber at the convex surface. When a vacuum is applied to the valve chamber, the flexible layer flexes to space the other surface of the flexible layer apart from the concave-convex surface to permit communication between the at least two second fluid passageways and when a pressure is applied to the valve chamber, the flexible layer flexes to dispose the other surface of the flexible layer on the concave-convex surface to prevent communication between the at least two second fluid passageways.

摘要: A volume-control receptacle has a reservoir with a bottom. The reservoir is adapted for receiving a fluid. The receptacle has a plurality of capillaries opening on the reservoir at a specific height above the bottom; the capillaries draw off the excess fluid from the receptacle, thereby leaving a specific amount of fluid in the reservoir. In a preferred embodiment, the volume-control receptacle is adapted for use with a disposable cuvette. The reservoir of the receptacle has a drain at the bottom connected to the cuvette for delivering the fluid to a testing instrument or other final application point. The volume-control receptacle has a lip projecting upward from a promontory of the receptacle. A rib extends downward from the lip to the bottom of the reservoir for guiding the fluid into the reservoir.

摘要: An integral valve diaphragm pump has a first rigid layer, a second rigid layer and a flexible membrane therebetween. Concave surfaces in the two rigid layers form a pump. The pump includes an actuating chamber which is alternately connected to a source of pressure and a source of vacuum. A pump chamber is connected to a fluid source and a fluid receiver through a filling check valve and a dispensing check valve, respectively. Duckbill and spring loaded ball check valves are disclosed.

摘要: A portable device for performing coagulation tests on a patient's blood. Blood is first drawn from a patient using a lancet. The blood is then supplied to a disposable cuvette placed within the testing device. The blood is drawn into multiple conduits within the cuvette. Each of the conduits contains a dried or lyophilized activation reagent that is rehydrated by the blood. The blood in each of the conduits is then reciprocally moved across a restricted region until a predetermined degree of coagulation occurs. Since the coagulation time is being monitored in multiple conduits, a representation coagulation time for a given sample can be determined. In at least one of the conduits a normalizing control agent is present. The normalizing control agent counteracts any effects of anticoagulants present in the blood sample, thereby allowing the blood sample to have generally normal coagulation characteristics. The normalized blood is tested simultaneously with the untreated blood to provide a reference value against which the functionality of the test system and the quality of the sample can be judged.

摘要: The test tube holder includes an elongated tubular member which supports a pivot member and receives a removable adapter member. The adapter member accommodates a test tube and can be interchanged with another adapter member that accommodates a different size test tube. Biasing springs are provided in the adapter member to hold the test tube therein. The biasing force of the biasing springs against the test tube is predetermined to permit easy insertion and removal of the test tube from the adapter member. The test tube holder which includes the adapter member can be joined to other similar test tube holders in a manner which permits relative pivoting and tilting of one test tube holder with respect to another test tube holder. The test tube holder further includes a detent arrangement for inseparably detenting the adapter member in the tubular member when a test tube is present in the tubular member. Removal of the test tube from the test tube holder enables the adapter member to be separated from the tubular member.

摘要: A method for circumcising a penis having a foreskin encircling the glans penis using an apparatus having a cap, a guide clamp, and a blade holder mechanism. The cap defines an interior space and has an outer surface. The glans penis of the penis is placed in the interior space defined by the cap. The foreskin of the penis is positioned around an outer surface of the cap. The clamp is positioned over the foreskin such that a portion of the foreskin is interposed between the clamp and specific features on the outer surface of the cap. The guide clamp is secured in a position over the foreskin of the penis crushing the skin to prevent bleeding. The blade holder mechanism is placed on the guide clamp and rotated around the guide clamp so that a blade carried by the blade holder mechanism cuts the foreskin. The blade is mounted on a flexible finger within the blade holder and as such is exposed for cutting only during use. At all other times the blade is safely contained within the blade holder body.

摘要: The test tube holder includes an elongated tubular member which supports a pivot member thereby rendering the tubular member and pivot member relatively pivotable with respect to each other. Latch members provided on the tubular member and pivot member are engagable with complementary shaped latch members of other test tube holders to form a linkage. The pivotal relationship between the tubular member and the pivot member permit pivotal movement of one test tube holder with respect to the longitudinal axis of another test tube holder. A pivotal connection between the latch members of adjacent test tube holders also permits tilting of one test tube holder with respect to another test tube holder in the linkage. An adapter member for holding test tubes is insertable in the tubular member and pivot member assembly. The adapter member accommodates one size test tube and can be interchanged with another adapter member that accommodates another size test tube. Thus, the linkage of test tube holders can include test tubes of different size. The relative pivotal movement between test tube holders in the linkage permits stacking of the linkage in a fan-fold arrangement. The tilting movement between test tube holders in a linkage permits mixing of the contents of a test tube or a group of test tubes independent of all others in the linkage before a sample is tested. Under this arrangement, a linkage of test tubes of unlimited length can be provided.
