Abstract: A pre-treatment coating composition includes evaporable liquid vehicle and a pre-treatment coating matrix, including from 30 wt % to 70 wt % multivalent organic salt, from 5 wt % to 30 wt % dispersed polyurethane binder having a weight average molecular weight from 30,000 Mw to 100,000 Mw, from 0.5 wt % to 8 wt % of a high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder, and from 10 wt % to 30 wt % of a low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder. The low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder and the high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder are present in the pre-treatment coating matrix at a 3:1 to 15:1 weight ratio, and weight percentages are based on dry weight of the pre-treatment coating matrix.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a print medium, a printed article, and a method of printing. The print medium can include a thin paper substrate having weight ranging from 40 GSM to 150 GSM, and a pre-treatment coating applied to the thin paper substrate at a weight ranging from 0.3 GSM to 15 GSM. The pre-treatment coating can include from 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a fixer, from 3 wt % to 50 wt % of a latex polymer, and from 5 wt % to 50 wt % of a water holding agent.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides pre-treatment coatings, media substrates, and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating can include an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include a binder and a fixer, and the wax can include wax particles dispersed within the matrix. At least a portion of the wax particles can have a particle size that is greater than a thickness of the matrix when the pre-treatment coating is applied to a media substrate at a basis weight from 0.5 gsm to 20 gsm and the evaporable solvent removed.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides pre-treatment compositions and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating for a print medium can include a an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include from 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a fixer, from 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a low Tg latex, and from 30 wt % to 80 wt % of a high Tg latex. The wax can include from 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a wax. The weight percentages of the matrix and the wax are based on a total amount present in the pre-treatment coating after removal of solvent.
