    摘要: A wheel support bearing assembly, in which rust preventive treatment is conducted to a pilot portion of a hub axle thereof to thereby increase the productivity and the reliability, is provided. This wheel support bearing assembly includes an outer member having rolling surfaces, an inner member having rolling surfaces opposed to the rolling surfaces of the outer member, and rows of rolling elements interposed between those opposed rolling surfaces. One of the outer and inner members that serves as a rotating member includes a hub axle having a wheel mounting hub flange and a cylindrical pilot portion protruding on an outboard side from a root portion of the hub flange for guiding a brake rotor and a wheel, both fitted to the hub flange. A coating layer of ultraviolet curable coating material is formed on a peripheral surface of the pilot portion.

A shoulder of an outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint abuts against a larger end face of the inner ring. The larger end face of the inner ring is formed as a ground surface. An end face of the shoulder of the outer joint member abutted against the larger end face is formed as a ground surface or a lathe-turned surface. The surface roughness Ra of at least the larger end face of the inner ring is limited to a range within 0.1˜0.3.

A sensor unit is associated with an outer ring of the bearing unit. The sensor unit includes a strain generator and at least one measuring sensor attached to the strain generator. The strain generator includes a thin plate including at least two fixation contact segments fixed in contact with an outer diameter surface of the outer ring.

Further, provided is a double-row angular bearing which is excellent in both strength and rigidity and which can be endowed with a longer life and higher quality. At least one of an inner race and the outer race is formed by a cold rolling process. Hardness prior to the cold rolling process of a blank is set to Rockwell Hardness 30 HRC or less. The outer race is formed by performing the cold rolling process on the blank including a circumferentially protruding portion which is provided on a radially inner surface of the blank and protrudes to a radially inner side of the blank.

A wheel pilot portion extends from the brake pilot portion further toward the outer side to guide an inner circumferential surface of the wheel. The wheel pilot portion including a plurality of separated pilots separated along a circumferential direction. A chamfered portion is formed, by forging, on a forward end of each separated pilot in view of its lathe cutting direction. The chamfered portion has a predetermined inclined angle relative to an axial end surface of each separated pilot after lathe cutting.

Double row rolling elements are contained between the inner and outer raceway surfaces of the inner member and the outer member. Fiber flow near the inner circumference of the material forming the wheel hub from the shoulder to the open end surface of the wheel hub is in a condition substantially parallel to the axis of the wheel hub.
