Disclosed are improved colorant compositions that are suitable for encapsulation in an impact-rupturable casing that is adapted for intact projectile motion and rupture upon contact with a target surface. In many embodiments, the colorant compositions comprise (a) a carrier comprising: (i) a metathesized unsaturated polyol ester; and (ii) a polyol ester; and (b) a colorant. The colorant compositions are useful in paint balls for use in conjunction with projectile devices, such as paint ball markers.

Relatively long chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively long chain alkylating agent under alkylation reaction conditions in the presence of a layered material as an alkylation catalyst. The layered material contains titanate in the layers and oxide pillars separating the layers. The layers also contain vacancies and/or metals incorporated therein. The degree of alkylation is a function of the interplanar d-spacing of the pillared material, which is, in turn a function of the chain length of the swelling agent used to prepare the layered material.

This invention relates to a process for producing a nonequilibrium distribution of methylamines by the catalyzed reaction of methanol and/or dimethyl ether with ammonia and by the catalytic reforming of a methylamine containing feedstock. One process selectively affords a reaction product enriched in mono and dimethylamines and low in trimethylamine, at high conversion of methanol or dimethylether. A variation of the process effects reforming a methylamine containing feedstock, optionally containing ammonia over a catalyst. The key to achieving this low TMA selectivity at high conversion resides in the use of a microporous zeolite, preferably chabazite, catalyst having a geometric selectivity index (GSI) less about 3, a shape selectivity index (SSI) greater than about 5 and a sorption capacity for 1-PrOH of at least 0.5 mmol/g.

There is provided a sulfated layered titanium oxide catalyst. Relatively long chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively long chain alkylating agent under alkylation reaction conditions in the presence of this sulfated layered material as alkylation catalyst. The layered material contains titanium oxide in the layers and oxide pillars separating the layers. The alkylation activity of the catalyst is increased by including sulfate ions in the layered material. This increased alkylation activity may be obtained by contacting the layered material with an aqueous solution of a sulfate compound such as sulfuric acid.
