This invention describes a new type of covalent-network ternary inorganic metal sulfide compounds M1M2S4 (M1, independently, is, Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, or Zn; M2=Mo or W) and a process for preparing the biocompatible nanoparticles of such compounds. The nanoparticles are surface-modified with a capping agent and/or a biocompatible polymer and have the size from a few nanometers to several thousand nanometers. These nanoparticles are nontoxic and can be internalized by cells to deplete copper ions via a highly selective ion-exchange reaction between the intracellular copper ions and the divalent ion bound in the nanoparticles for the application of inhibiting angiogenesis in cancer and other diseases.

Stable sulfide-containing compositions have been developed. The stable sulfide-containing composition comprises a) a sulfide, a polysulfide or mixtures thereof, of an alkali or an alkaline earth metal, and b) a carrier, such that after maintaining the sulfide-containing composition at a temperature of about 37.degree. to about 50.degree. Celsius for about 2 weeks to one month, the sulfide content remaining in the sulfide-containing composition is about 90% or greater of the initial sulfide content. The sulfide-containing compositions can be used for relieving the pain of ingrown toenail by softening the nail, or as a depilatory for removing human hair or hair from animal hides.

A strip containing a series of flanged pierce nuts connected by flexible and severable sections for use in automatically applying flanged pierce nuts to a panel. The method of forming the strip is also disclosed and comprises providing a blank strip formed with opposed laterally extending flanges, perforating the strip between the flanges, and then slotting the strip between adjacent perforations to form the nut body, after which the sides of the strips are straightened, the holes are threaded and the strip coiled into predetermined lengths. Further, there is disclosed the method of applying pierce nuts from such strip to a panel.
