Abstract: A system, an electrical combination and a method for powering a load device. The combination may include a burst circuit configured to provide power to the load device to perform a burst operation, the burst circuit including a supercapacitor, a first switch between a power source and the supercapacitor and operable to control whether power is provided from the power source to charge the supercapacitor, and a second switch between the supercapacitor and the load device and operable to control whether power is provided from the supercapacitor to the load device; and an electronic processor configured to control the first switch and the second switch based at least in part on a voltage of the supercapacitor.

Abstract: A multi-bay power supply including a plurality of energy storage devices, a power output configured to provide power from the plurality of energy storage devices to a peripheral device, and a controller including an electronic processor. The controller is configured to determine which battery of the plurality of energy storage devices has a highest state of charge, provide power to the peripheral device by discharging the energy storage device having the highest state of charge for a first configurable amount of time. The controller is further configured to provide power to the peripheral device by discharging the energy storage devices having the highest state of charge and any energy storage devices in the plurality of energy storage devices having a state of charge that is within a tolerance of the highest state of charge.

Abstract: A battery pack and a method of inhibiting failure of a battery pack. The battery pack may generally include a housing; a battery cell supported in the housing and electrically connectable to an electrical device, power being transferrable between the battery cell and the electrical device; a resistor supported in the housing and operable to receive current from the battery cell; and an electronic processor configured to detect a failure condition of the battery pack, and, in response to detecting the failure condition of the battery pack, cause the battery cell to discharge through the resistor.

Abstract: A battery pack, a method of heating a battery cell and an electrical combination. The battery pack may include a housing; a battery cell; a heating element operable to provide heat to the battery cell; a temperature sensing device operable to sense a temperature of an interior of the battery pack; a heating switch operable to control whether power is provided to the heating element; and an electronic processor configured to receive a signal from the temperature sensing device, the signal indicating the temperature of the interior of the battery pack, determine that the temperature of the interior of the battery pack is less than a predetermined temperature threshold, and in response to determining that the temperature of the interior of the battery pack is less than the predetermined temperature threshold, close the heating switch to provide power to the heating element.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a battery pack including a housing, a latch mechanism, a printed circuit board connected to electrical terminals, and an internal frame. The housing includes a first and second portion. The first portion includes openings that receive the latch mechanism and openings that receive the terminals. The battery pack also includes a latch cover that protects against water infiltrating between the openings and the latch mechanism, and a terminal cover that protects against water infiltrating between the first housing portion and the terminals. Water that enters the battery pack is directed to the bottom of the battery pack. The water is then drained through openings in the lower housing portion. The internal frame includes openings that secure batteries within the lower housing portion with the help of wedges that are positioned in between adjacent rows of batteries.
