Abstract: Portable power supply with a maximum charge rate feature. The portable power supply includes a power source; a power input unit configured to receive power from an external source; a core charger coupled to the power source and the power input unit; and an electronic processor coupled to the core charger. The electronic processor is configured to receive a power limit value and determine a supportable charge current of the internal power source. The core charger is configured to determine a power-limited current based on the power limit value and an output voltage of the core charger, determine a target output current by comparing the power-limited current and the supportable charge current, and charge the power source with the received power at the target output current.

Abstract: A battery charger and a method of operating a battery charger. The charger may include a housing defining an air inlet and an air outlet; a charging circuit operable to output a charging current to charge a battery couplable to the battery charger; a tubular heat sink; and a fan operable to cause air flow from the air inlet to the air outlet and along the heat sink. The charger may include a first switch operable to electrically connect the charging circuit to a power source when the battery engages the charger; and a second switch operable to electrically connect the charging circuit to a battery terminal after the charger terminal is electrically connected to the battery terminal. The charging current or a fan speed may be adjusted based on at least one of the temperature of the charger or a temperature of the battery.

Abstract: A resettable electronic fuse for a high-power device such as a power tool, a battery pack for the power tool, or a battery pack charger. The resettable electronic fuse is connected in a current path of the device and is operable or configured to selectively interrupt current through the resettable electronic fuse based on a detected condition of the device (e.g., a detected fault condition of the device). The resettable electronic fuse is also configured to be reset after a detected fault condition has ended. In some embodiments, the resettable electronic fuse is configured to reset itself. In other embodiments, the resettable electronic fuse is configured to receive a signal (e.g., from a device controller) to reset.

The battery pack includes a battery pack housing connectable to and supportable by the hand held power tool, a plurality of battery cells supported by the battery pack housing, each of the plurality of battery cells having a lithium-based chemistry, being individually tapped and having an individual state of charge. A communication path is provided by a battery pack sense terminal and a power tool sense terminal. The controller is operable to monitor a state of charge of a number of battery cells less than the plurality of battery cells and to generate a signal based on the monitored state of charge of the number of battery cells less than the plurality of battery cells, the signal being operable to control the operation of the hand held power tool.
