    摘要: In a molded intake manifold/fuel rail, a through-passage for the conveyance of combustion air is created by disposing two separably engaged core parts of the mold to occupy the entirety of the through-passage during the molding process. After molded material has solidified, the core parts are separated in generally opposite, but non-colinear directions. During the molding process, one core part occupies the entire length of the through-passage along a certain circumferential extent of the through-passage while along another circumferential extent, both core parts conjointly occupy the entire length of the through-passage.

    摘要: The injector is mechanically retained in the molded composite socket member by an annular cap that is threaded onto the end of the socket member containing the end of the through-bore into which the injector was inserted. The sidewall of the cap contains an internal helical thread that threads to an external helical thread on the exterior of the socket member. The cap stiffens the socket wall at the thread to strengthen the socket wall against circumferential expansion caused by the pressure of fuel in an annular space that surrounds the injector interior of the socket through-bore. A method for making the cap and joining it to the socket member is also disclosed.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine has two differently tuned sets of runners leading to the cylinders. A wave deflector element transversely spans a particular runner for one cylinder and the corresponding particular runner for an adjacent cylinder, and there is one wave deflector element for each pair of cylinders. The wave deflector elements are selectively operated in unison by an actuator to either open or close the runners of the set with which they are associated depending upon the operating state of the engine. The actuator is controlled by an electronic control unit. Each wave deflector element comprises a shaft and a pair of wave deflectors integrally formed of plastic so as to be of one-piece construction. The wave deflector element is resiliently flexible by bending for installation in the runners that it controls.

    摘要: A process for manufacturing an air flow assembly having a valve disc within a bore. A first support is inserted into the bore from below the valve disc, and a second “floating” support is inserted from above the disc. The second support “floats” relative to the disc upon a fluid receiving member such as an inflatable bellows. As the fluid receiving member allows the second support to float when contacting the disc, any inconstancies of the disc are compensated by the “floating” second support. As the disc is squeezed between the supports heat conducted from heaters causes the material of the disc to be extruded radially outwardly into contact with the bore to obtain a consistent thickness at the disc outer periphery.

    摘要: An electronic throttle control system for a vehicle accommodates situations where ice forms on one or more throttle assembly components. Rapid movement is induced in the throttle assembly to generate a high torque for a short period of time to break up any ice formation. A controller preferably induces motion at a resonant frequency of the assembly for a controlled period of time. In a disclosed embodiment, a first frequency is used when the throttle blade is in a first position while a second frequency is used when a throttle blade is in a second position. The preferred embodiment includes a vibration enhancing element.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is provided for driving a throttle blade about an axis of rotation between maximum and minimum airflow positions. The throttle assembly includes a throttle body with an airflow passage. The throttle blade is mounted for rotation with respect to the body between the maximum and minimum airflow positions. The throttle blade has a central bore for receiving at least a portion of a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a motor operably connected to a gear drive to move the throttle blade between the maximum and minimum airflow positions. In one example, the drive mechanism is preassembled in a tube that is inserted into the blade bore during assembly. A position sensor is also mounted within the bore to monitor the position of the blade relative to the body.

    摘要: A vehicle sensor assembly includes a vehicle sensor of a relatively low density material assembly for a vehicle fluid directing component such as an air intake manifold having a sensor receipt member formed of a relatively high density material. When the sensor is inserted into the sensor receipt member, the relatively softer sensor engagement surface is displaced from its free state by the relatively harder sensor receipt member engagement surface. The relatively softer sensor engagement surface is resilient and will always attempt to return to its free state position to relieve the high stress area. In attempting to return to its free state, the sensor engagement surface will “creep” toward a low stress area. The sensor body responds by “creeping” toward the vehicle fluid directing component. The present invention thereby takes advantage of the relief of residual stresses formed during insertion of the sensor body to tighten the mounting of the sensor into the vehicle fluid directing component.

One end of the spring can be released to engage a portion of the throttle body thus reducing a portion of the preload. The cover had several flexible fingers that engage a groove in the throttle shaft and prevent the cover from sliding off thus exposing the spring.

    摘要: A number of fuel injectors are mounted on an elongated carrier that is inserted endwise into an open end of an elongated hole in a member such as a tube or an engine manifold. The fuel injectors' nozzles are received in sealed manner in holes extending through the wall of said member. A keeper also inserted endwise through the elongated hole in the member keeps the carrier in place. In one embodiment, electrical lead wires extend from the fuel injectors along the carrier to a connector on the exterior to provide for the fuel rail assembly to be electrically connected by a wiring harness to the engine management computer. In another, the injectors are connected to the connector by means of an electronic circuit board assembly that is mounted on the carrier. The electronic circuit board assembly contains circuitry that is programmed to secure the proper dynamic calibration of the injectors over their entire dynamic operating range.
