    摘要: Disclosed is a bonded can of the key-opening type comprising a coated metal blank and a seam formed by lap-bonding outer and inner end edge portions of the coated metal blank to each other by a tape of a thermoplastic resin adhesive, wherein the adhesive is a polyamide type or polyester type adhesive, the inner end edge portion forming the seam of the bonded can is completely covered with the adhesive tape, the outer edge portion has a winding-starting tongue piece integrated therewith, a plurality of scores are formed on the outer surface of the coated metal blank from the base of the tongue piece along the entire circumference inclusive of the seam, the scores have a knife angle of 45.degree. to 120.degree. and a depth corresponding to 8 to 45% of the thickness of the metal blank, a coating of an epoxy resin having a thermal softening point of 65.degree. to 150.degree. C. as measured according to the thermomechanical method is formed at least at the seam-forming part on the outer surface and said epoxy resin coating forms a continuous layer adhering closely to the metal blank even in the portion of said scores.

    摘要: A method of transporting can bodies for a fully automated resistance welding machine comprising a roll former station for rolling the bodies, two successively arranged driven transport systems, and a pair of welding electrodes. The transport systems comprise endless, revolving chains equipped with fixed catches or cams and defining first and second chains. The first chain passes through the roll former station where, during rolling of the blanks into the can bodies, it cyclically and periodically remains at least approximately stationary, whereas the second chain has a sinusoidal velocity course. The can bodies exposed to the intermittent non-continuous mode of operation of the first chain, necessitated by the roll forming operation, are transferred to the second chain and experience a movement which is stabilizing for the can bodies.

    摘要: Metal cans are welded by frictional treatment of the materials joined. The treatment is provided by a rapidly rotating smooth hard friction tool e.g. wheel contacting a surface of the metal above the join while the parts joined are held in pressure contact by independent pressure exerting means and/or by the wheel itself. In the formation of can side-seams the wheel and the can are relatively traversed and a longitudinal continuous side-seam is formed which in the case of the metal to metal joints is metallurgically homogeneous and may be characterized in that no signs of melting of the base metal are visible at the welded interfaces.

    摘要: A process for conditioning the weld area of a metal can, consisting in locally distorting by means of a roller pair the sheet metal in the region of the overlap of the opposite edges, so as to obtain an almost continuous cylindrical surface on the inside of the body with a groove of small width in the region of aforesaid overlapping edges. The roller pair includes an inner roller having an outer transverse contour corresponding to the inner can diameter, and the outer roller has two diameters separated by a step portion, preferably a bevel surface. The seam is passed through the rollers so that the step portion deforms the can body in the area of the inner free edge of the welded seam to reduce to a minimum the internal offset area along opposite sides of the seam in the vicinity of the inner free edge.

    摘要: The raw metal edge of the inside lap of an adhesively bonded lap side seam of a tubular body is coated and protected from chemical attack by a corrosive substance contained within the tubular body by applying a ribbon of side seam adhesive along one marginal edge portion of the body blank, the ribbon having a fillet thereon located along its inner edge, forming the blank into tubular form, bringing the marginal portions together in an overlapping opposing relation, and pressing the marginal portions together to assemble the lap side seam in a manner such that the raw metal edge of the inside lap is pressed into a portion of the fillet and is overlapped, coated and thereby protected by that portion of the fillet.

    摘要: The raw metal edge on the inside lap in an adhesively-bonded lap side seam of a tubular body is protected from chemical attack by a corrosive substance from within the tubular body by applying a side seam adhesive along one marginal edge portion of the body blank, bending the other parallel marginal edge portion of the blank to form a crease thereon, rolling the blank into tubular form to place the adhesively-coated marginal edge portion and the creased marginal edge portion in an overlapping, facing position, and imbedding the creased marginal edge portion into a portion of the adhesive on the one marginal edge portion to bury the raw metal edge, the imbedding being achieved by compressing the overlapped marginal edge portions together to assemble the lap side seam of the tubular body.

    摘要: A method for side striping cans which uses a single belt having slots of can seam length along its middle. A stream of fluidized powder is shaped and is jetted toward the side seam of the can at an angle less than 30 degrees. The side seam of the can is moving at a uniform speed and in this way the powdered material settles onto the can side seam with an even distribution of powdered material across each lateral unit of the side seam. The edges of the stripe are sharp because the side seam lies in the segmented belt.
