Abstract: A decoupler assembly for transferring rotary movement between an engine driven shaft and a serpentine belt. The decoupler includes a hub configured to be assembled to the shaft. The hub has a helical first slot formed therein. A pulley is rotatably coupled to the hub. A carrier is mounted on the hub and includes a helical second slot formed therein, as well as an anti-ramp up boss formed thereon. A thrust plate is fixed to the hub and has a slot formed therein. A torsion spring is compressed between a hub end retained in the helical first slot and a carrier end retained in the helical second slot for transferring torque between the hub and carrier. The anti-ramp up boss travels within the slot formed in the thrust plate for limiting rotation between the carrier and thrust plate and preventing rotation of the torsion spring relative to the hub and carrier.

Abstract: A dual rack and pinion system is provided for a window lift mechanism. The window lift mechanism includes improved window brackets for simple mounting to a window. A modular frame design is provided to improve assembly of the window lift mechanism into the door of a vehicle. An improved assembly method is provided for the dual rack and pinion system. The system is also provided with a smart motor and incorporates resilient shock absorbers in the dual rack and pinion gear train to allow more time for the smart motor to detect and react to an obstruction in the window. The window lift mechanism includes a support bracket mounted to the window and a motor supported on a support bracket, wherein the support bracket permits axial and rotational movement of the window relative to the support bracket.

Abstract: A braking system for a vehicle manual window-lifting mechanism prevents a window from dropping as a consequence of vibrations and minimizes angular play in a crank shaft. The system includes a helical spring that assists the crank shaft and that has a geometry modified from its conventional design. An included angle between the radial side pieces at which the winding ends terminate is an acute angle. One of the side pieces is coupled inside a radial hollow of the crank-driven shaft itself. The other side piece is located between the crank shaft and the drum, which rotate relative to each other. As a result, instead of the usual 40null or 45null of free play, the invention allows a maximum free play of only 10null to 15null in the crank shaft.

Abstract: A window lift mechanism for raising and lowering a window in a vehicle door includes a support bracket mounted to the window and a motor supported on the support bracket, wherein the support bracket permits the axial and rotational movement of the window relative to the support bracket. A pair of parallel, vertical racks are mounted to the door and are positioned immediately adjacent to the window. A worm gear is driven by a worm with a lead angle greater than seven degrees coupled to a motor. A clutch mechanism is utilized to prevent back drive of the worm/worm gear system. The worm gear is operatively coupled to a pinion gear with resilient shock absorbers that are provided with notched surfaces to accommodate for compression of the resilient material with an enclosed space.

Abstract: A clutch is arranged between a rotatable shaft and a worm shaft in a motor. The clutch includes a driving-side rotator connected to the rotatable shaft, a driven-side rotator connected to the worm shaft, a spring support and a coil spring arranged in the spring support. When the driving-side rotator is rotated upon energization of the motor, the coil spring is wound by the driving-side rotator to reduce an outer diameter of the coil spring, so that the rotation of the driving-side rotator is transmitted to the driven-side rotator and the worm shaft. The powered drive assembly includes a motor assembly operably coupled to a flexible flocked drive cable which is supported for rotation within a housing. The flocked drive cable provides a helical surface. Specific coupling members are adapted to engage the helical surface and operably couple the drive cable with the slidable component. For example, in one preferred embodiment a coupling bracket operably couples the flocked drive cable to a slidable window assembly of the type used in the rear opening of a pick-up cab for opening and closing the window. In a second preferred embodiment, the coupling member operably couples the drive cable to a curtain assembly located within the interior of an over-the-road truck cab for opening and closing the curtain. The drive assembly further enables the motor assembly to be remotely located from the housing and coupling brackets, thereby facilitating in packaging of the powered drive assembly within the confines of the vehicle interior.

Abstract: A door controlling device for opening and closing a door in a wall has a first arm, one end of which is mounted to the wall and the other end of which is pivotally attached to the second end of a second arm. The first end of the second arm is pivotally attached to the top of a door and is adapted for rotation about a horizontal axis at the first end thereof. An electric motor attached to the device has a shaft which drives a gear train, and an output shaft of the gear train is connected to the input end of an electrically operated clutch. The output shaft of the clutch is connected to the first end of one of the arms such that upon the simultaneous engagement of the clutch and the energizing of the motor, that arm will be rotated about the horizontal axis at the first end and will cause the door to be opened or closed. Also, a current measuring device for determining whether the motor is drawing on excessive amount of electric current, a door open sensor for generating a signal when the door is in a fully opened position, and a door closed sensor for generating a signal when the door is in a fully closed position are all connected to a computer to control the opening and closing of a door.
