摘要: A dimension sensor is used in conjunction with a tube and includes a body member and at least one detector element. The body member has an inner surface defining an opening sized to receive the tube. The at least one detector element is connected to the body member and has a detector portion extending into the opening. When the tube is received in the opening, the detector portion is initially disposed apart from the tube. A method using the dimension sensor stops expansion of the tube expanding from a pre-expanded state to a desired expanded state. A pumping device is actuated to pressurize a fluid by an amount sufficient to cause the tube to expand from the pre-expanded state to the desired expanded state. When the tube expands to the desired expanded state, the pumping device deactivates thereby stopping expansion of the tube at the desired expanded state.

摘要: A method of securing a plurality of oblong tubes into a plurality of circular openings in a header of a CT or Serpentine style fin core exchanger. One end of each tube is shaped into a circle, inserted into a circular opening in the header and bonded into place thus forming a Flat-Round joint.

摘要: The invention refers to a flat tube heat exchanger for motor vehicles in which the flat tubes leaving an internally projecting free end as an overhand are inserted in collars which extend to the inside and which are opened up in the form of a tulip of slits of a tube bottom of a header case for the internal heat exchange fluid and the header case comprises at least one partition dividing off various chambers of the header case and intersecting the flat tubes, the partition reaching at least down to the ground of the tube bottom adjacent to the flat tubes or to the collars extending to the inside and comprising in the region of the free ends of the flat tubes in the header case recesses overgripping the free ends, and the free ends of the first tubes in the header case being arranged with an undercut with respect to the collars opened up as a tulip which locks the flat tubes against being pulled out of the tubes bottom. According to the invention it is provided that the free ends of the flat tubes are pressed into the ground of the respectively allocated recess with compensation for tolerances such that the material displacement of the wall of the flat tube forms the undercut at its free end.

摘要: A method for connecting a coolant tube (20) and header (22, 24) of a heat exchanger (10) comprises manifolds (12, 14) forming fluid reservoirs (16, 18) and a plurality of coolant tubes (20) in fluid communication with the manifolds (12, 14). The manifolds (12, 14) comprise a header wall (22, 24) having a plurality of collars (26) forming collar openings (28). The tubes (20) include an axially extending mechanical seam (50) and deformable hollow end portions (52) extending through the collar openings (28). A flaring tool (70) having tapered side surfaces (74) is inserted in the end portion (52) of the tube (20) to expand the tube (20) outwardly against the collar opening (28). The flaring tool (70) includes a groove extending axially along the side surface (74) aligning with and straddling the seam (50) during expansion of the tube (20) and further forces the portions (62, 64 ) of the tube (20) adjacent the seam (50) outwardly into sealing engagement with the collar opening (28).

摘要: There is disclosed a tube-to-header joint arrangement for a heat exchanger wherein the tubes include an oblong or flattened body which is off-set to one side with respect to cylindrical ends formed on the tubes. The off-set bodies facilitate staggering alternate rows of collared openings formed in the header to thereby maintain a predetermined minimum distance between adjacent collars to avoid fatigue or failure of the header, while permitting maximum diameter openings to be employed for maximum surface area contact between each tube and header collar for a stronger joint therebetween.

摘要: An exterior surface portion of a metal tube (30) is bonded to a surface portion of a bore (11) in a metal tubesheet (10) by detonating an explosive bonding charge (31) inside the tube (30) adjacent a front face (13) of the tubesheet (10). The bonding charge (31) consists of nitroguanidine, and is contained within a polypropylene container comprising a cup structure (21) and a header structure (22). The cup structure (21) forms a receptacle for the bonding charge (31), and positions the bonding charge (31) at the proper depth within the tube (30) to achieve the desired bonding effect. The header structure (22) overlies and shapes the bonding charge (31), and contains a transfer charge (44) and a firing charge (45) for initiating detonation of the bonding charge (31). A firing assembly for initiating detonations of firing charges (45) in tubes (30) arranged in a plurality of linear arrays comprises a corresponding plurality of firing rails (24) and an initiation rail (27). Each firing rail (24) is secured to the header structures (22) of a corresponding linear array of bonding charge containers, so that a linear charge (25) secured to the firing rail (24) can initiate detonation in sequence of the individual firing charges (25) of the corresponding linear array. An initiation rail (27) crosses each of the firing rails (24), so that a linear initiation charge (26) secured to the initiation rail (27) can detonate each of the linear charges (25) on the various firing rails (24) in sequence.
