At least a portion of the sensor is packaged via a liquid encapsulation. The packaging includes a shaped flexible outer membrane that surrounds at least the portion of the sensor. The packaging also includes a hydrophobic liquid disposed between at least the portion of the pressure sensor and the flexible outer membrane. The implantable medical device can be a part of a medical system used for monitoring medical conditions or performing medical operations based on the implantable medical device. Additionally, manufacturing methods are described for packaging the sensor in a liquid encapsulation.

The gas source is activated to cause gas to flow through the deluge system during a gas test period, and using the plurality of sensors, at least one fluid parameter during the gas test period is measured to provide a gas test data set. The first gas test data set is stored, transmitted and/or processed to derive information about the condition of the deluge system.

A number of parameters are monitored using a monitoring device connected to the pneumatic system, an energy harvesting unit configured to generate electrical energy from a gas in the pneumatic system, and a controller. The monitoring device comprises a number of sensors configured to detect the number of parameters. The controller is in communication with the number of sensors and the energy harvesting unit and is configured to process measurements for the number of parameters detected by the number of sensors and control operation of the energy harvesting unit. The number of sensors and the controller are powered by the energy harvesting unit. The monitoring device is powered using the electrical energy generated by the energy harvesting unit.

A transducer interface system/method allowing conversion from an analog sensor input to a standardized analog output interface is disclosed. In some preferred embodiments the system/method permits a fiber optic pressure sensor to be interfaced to a standard patient care monitor (PCM) system using standardized Wheatstone Bridge analog interface inputs. Within this context the Wheatstone Bridge sensed output is defined by stimulus from the PCM and modulation of bridge element values by the conditioned output of an analog pressure sensor. The use of analog-to-digital-to-analog conversion in this transducer interface permits retrofitting of PCM devices having analog Wheatstone Bridge inputs with advanced patient monitoring sensors without the need for specialized modifications to the baseline PCM data collection framework. Methods disclosed herein include techniques to connect arbitrary types/numbers of analog sensors to traditional PCM systems without the need for PCM system hardware/software modifications.
