Abstract: The invention relates mainly to a wheel system (S) intended to be rotationally driven about a central axis (X), comprising two distinct parts (R1, R2) arranged in such a way as to be in pivoting connection with one another about the central axis (X), the wheel system (S) is designed in such a way as to occupy two positions; a first position, referred to as the mounted position, in which the two distinct parts (R1, R2) are superposed, and a second position, referred to as the standard position, in which the two distinct parts (R1, R2) are angularly offset from one another so as to form a disc in the plane (P) perpendicular to the central axis (X), the transition from the mounted position to the standard position being carried out by means of a translational movement, along the central axis (X), of one of the distinct parts (R2) with respect to the other (R1).

Abstract: A hi-rail wheel that may be mounted on the OEM lugs, and provides a smooth ride at highway speeds, better handling and improved tire wear and life. The wheel is mounted to the OEM lugs using the OEM lug nuts eliminating extra lug nuts, an adapter plate, and requiring only one wrench size for removal and mounting of the wheel. Additionally, the wheel may be 40-80 pounds lighter per wheel than the prior art hi-rail wheels and adapters.

Abstract: A wheeled carriage is capable of moving on rails to-and-fro, and of moving on a railless flat floor in any desired direction. The carriage has at least three pivotable wheel units. Each of these units consists of a first wheel and a second wheel. The first wheel includes a core wheel portion and a raised peripheral wheel portion surrounding the latter. The second wheel resembles substantially the core wheel portion of the first wheel. The wheel unit is designed for making two contact points with rails when seen in side view and equally making two contact points with rails when seen in its front or rear view.

Abstract: The Reconfigurable Wheel-Track (RWT) device is a novel mechanism that allows a wheel to transform into a track, and vice versa. The wheel mode allows a vehicle to travel quickly over smooth and semi-rough terrain, then, on-the-fly, transform rapidly into a powered track mode for crossing extreme terrain. The reconfigurable wheeltrack device comprises several main components: an outer tire/tread, a drive mechanism for driving the tread when in track mode and a reconfiguration mechanism that facilitates the transformation from wheel mode to track mode and vice versa. The reconfigurable wheel-track includes sensing, actuation, and controls to facilitate efficient and effective transitions, and securely maintain each wheel and track shape.
