    摘要: A method of and apparatus for generating a cylinder discriminating signal in a distributor for an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The cylinder discriminating signal is generated by a combination of a cylinder discriminating reluctor installed on a centrifugal spark advance member and a cylinder discriminating sensor attached to a vacuum spark advance plate to detect approach and passage of the cylinder discriminating reluctor. The width of the cylinder discriminating reluctor in the direction of rotation is set so as to correspond to an angle smaller than the entire range of spark advance of the ignition timing signal. The cylinder discriminating signal is advanced by both centrifugal spark advance and vacuum spark advance so as to overlap the ignition timing signal despite having a relatively narrow width. Since the width of the cylinder discriminating signal is reduced, it is possible to improve the control tolerances of the associated microcomputer.

    摘要: To provide a signal representative of angular crankshaft position from an ignition distributor, independently of change of ignition timing, the ignition distributor includes a further or additional rotating transducer system (8, 9, 10, 11), for example a rotating disk (8) positively coupled to the shaft (3) of the distributor. The disk (8) carries markers (10) which are picked up by an optic, magnetic (Hall generator) or inductive pick-up (9). To provide a reference marker output, for example a reference, e.g. TDC position of a reference piston, the rotating disk (8) can carry an additional reference marker (10a) picked up by a reference pick-up (9a) which can be similar to the other pick-ups used in the construction. The specific crankshaft position signals are especially suitable and desirable if the engine is coupled to an engine knock sensing and knock prevention system (KS).

    摘要: The invention provides a distributor device for H.T. supply to an internal combustion engine, and comprising several ignition coils and a single contact breaker to interrupt supply to one or more of those coils at any instant, each of the coils having its primary winding shunted by a thyristor which can be controlled to select whether the primary winding of that particular coil is to be energized, or not, as the case may be.In one embodiment, the thyristors are polarized so as to conduct in a direction allowing "idling" circulation of current through the closed circuit comprising the shunting thyristor and its associated primary winding; in another embodiment the thyristors are polarized in the reverse direction and a diode is connected between the gate and the cathode of each thyristor to protect the cathode from gate voltage and another diode is connected to protect the gating circuit of that particular thyristor. The coils may be connected all in series, or all in parallel, or in parallel-connected sub-assemblies which are then strung in series.

    摘要: A centrifugal advance mechanism for an internal combustion engine ignition distributor. The centrifugal advance mechanism has a weight base which is directly secured to the distributor shaft. The weight base has a pair of pins which respectively pivotally support a flyweight. The flyweights have cam surfaces which engage a cam plate. The cam plate is removably secured to a pair of pins which extend through openings in the weight base and which are secured to a base plate that is connected to a pole piece of a magnetic pickup type of distributor. With this arrangement the width of the cam plate is kept at a minimum with the result that the outer contour of the cam plate can be of such a configuration as to provide a centrifugal advance mechanism where the cam has maximum rolling contact with the flyweights and minimum sliding engagement. With the arrangement described the flyweights are carried by the unsprung mass of the centrifugal advance mechanism thus reducing the moment of inertia of the sprung mass of the mechanism. The cam plate and flyweights have flat sections which become engaged at a predetermined shaft speed. This engagement serves to limit the amount of advance that can be obtained from the mechanism when the predetermined speed is attained.

A rotatable shaft is supported by the casing and carries a rotor arm which co-operates with high tension electrodes carried by the cap. Within the enclosure defined by the casing and the cap is an ignition coil including two separable parts. A first part of the coil includes a first core component and the coil primary winding and the second coil part includes a second core component and the coiled secondary winding. The two ignition coil parts are located in position relative to one another to constitute an ignition coil by the distributor cap and the casing.

    摘要: An ignition system for internal combustion engines, incorporating an improved rotor. The rotor is annular in form, and non-conductive. It is formed with slideways extending diametrically from its axis of rotation, and opening downwardly throughout their length. Non-conductive slide elements are received in the slideways, and on their bottom faces carry transmitter plates. The transmitter plates are substantially triangular in form with the wide end of the triangle extending inwardly toward the axis of rotation. On its outer end face, each slide carries a spring. A grounding ring depends from the rotor and encircles the slideways so that the springs bear on the inner peripheral surface of the ring, normally urging the slide elements in toward the axis of rotation. A set screw extends through the ring and the rotor to contact the distributor shaft, and establish electrical contact between ring and shaft. A brush housing is disposed beneath the rotor, and a brush, socketed in the housing is urged upwardly by a spring to have sliding contact with the bottom faces of the rotor, sliding elements, and transmitter plates, which are co-planar. The brush has electrical communication with the primary winding of a coil, and the necessary, usual electrical circuitry, and a source of electrical current, are present to render the ignition system operable. Contact of the brush with the transmitter plates closes a circuit to the primary winding of the coil, and the duration of such contact, of course, determines the strength of the spark reaching a spark plug. Obviously, as speed of rotation increases, the duration of contact decreases and the strength of spark is diminished. To compensate for increased speed of rotation, the present invention provides triangularly shaped transmission plates, which, are mounted on, and beneath the slide elements, to slide outwardly as centrifugal force intensifies with speed of rotation. Outward sliding travel disposes a longer path of travel over the transmission plates, due to the diverging lateral edges thereof to compensate in part for the decreased time of such travel to afford a longer build-up of magnetic field in the primary coil and hence a stronger spark.
