Abstract:
A linear interferometric sensor system in which the light output from the interferometric sensor is optically bandpass filtered before conversion to an electrical signal by an adjustable diffraction grating and the center wavelength of the adjustable diffraction grating is controlled by a feedback circuit responsive to the steady state component of the electrical signal corresponding to the filtered sensor return. The adjustable may comprise a diffraction grating a diffraction grating mounted on a motor driven rotary stage. The invention is particularly useful in self calibrating interferometric/intensity-based sensor configuration, but is also applicable in a wide variety of linear interferometric sensor configurations.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and an article of manufacture for parallel execution of SQL operations from within user defined functions. One or more embodiments of the invention provide the user defined function (UDF) with a C++ class (hereinafter referred to as “dispatcher”) that can take an SQL query and start parallel execution of the query. The query is optimized and parallelized. The dispatcher executes the query, sets up the communication links between the various operators in the query, and ensures that all the results are sent back to the data-server that originated the query request. Further, the dispatcher merges the results of the parallel execution and produces a single stream of tuples that is fed to the calling UDF. To provide the single stream to the calling UDF, one or more embodiments of the invention utilize a class that provides the UDF with a simple and easy-to-use interface to access the results of the nested SQL execution.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit (20) includes multiple output buffers (30, 50, 70) which switch substantially simultaneously. The output buffers (30, 50, 70) are connected together via a common node (25). Before any one of the output buffers (30, 50, 70) actively drives its corresponding output node to an appropriate logic state, a coupling circuit (42) in the output buffer (30) evaluates whether the new logic state matches the old logic state. If the coupling circuit (42) determines that the logic states are different, then it couples the output node to the common node (25). With each output buffer in the group of multiple output buffers (30, 50, 70) functioning similarly, energy is conserved by using the charge stored in the low-going nodes to charge up the high-going nodes.

Abstract:
Microemulsions of water-insoluble active ingredients, employing a special surfactant system and solvent system. These microemulsions remain thermodynamically stable over a wide range of water dilutions.
Abstract:
There is described the stereoselective total synthesis by a variety of routes of novel suitably substituted .DELTA..sup.2,3 -1,4-morpholine-2-carboxylic acids possessing a fused .beta.-lactam ring in the 1,6-position and carrying a substituent cis to carbon 5 in the 7-position of the fused ring system represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein Q is hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl or --CH.sub.2 COOZ where Z is hydrogen or the residue of an ester group and X is amino, azido or acylamino. Also included in the invention are compounds of the above formula in which the carboxyl group at the 2-position is protected as by an easily cleavable ester group and salts of both the free acids and carboxyl-protected compounds. Those compounds in which X is acylamino and their physiologically hydrolyzed esters and pharmaceutically acceptable salts are potent antibacterial agents.
Abstract:
Methods, compositions, and kits for adhering polymers and other materials to another material, and in particular to bone or bone-like structures or surfaces. A composition of matter includes a urethane dimethacrylate-methyl methacrylate copolymer with a plurality of first polymer regions based on urethane dimethacrylate and a plurality of second polymer regions based on methyl methacrylate. The method includes placing an orthopedic joint implant having an attachment surface in a joint space, applying a first non-urethane-containing precursor, a second urethane-containing precursor, and a initiator to the attachment surface; contacting the first and second precursors and the initiator with the joint surface; and copolymerizing the first and second precursors and forming an adhesive copolymer and attaching the implant to the joint.
Abstract:
The invention relates to novel heterocyclic compounds of the formula in which all of the variables are as defined in the specification, to their preparation, to their medical use, in particular to their use in the treatment of cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, and to medicaments comprising them.

Abstract:
A virtual hint based data cache way prediction scheme, and applications thereof. In an embodiment, a processor retrieves data from a data cache based on a virtual hint value or an alias way prediction value and forwards the data to dependent instructions before a physical address for the data is available. After the physical address is available, the physical address is compared to a physical address tag value for the forwarded data to verify that the forwarded data is the correct data. If the forwarded data is the correct data, a hit signal is generated. If the forwarded data is not the correct data, a miss signal is generated. Any instructions that operate on incorrect data are invalidated and/or replayed.
