Abstract:
A system and method for sensing the formation of tin whiskers is presented. An assembly substrate includes whisker detectors at various locations for detecting tin whiskers in an X direction, a Y direction, and a Z direction relative to the assembly substrate. Each whisker detector includes sense traces and a trace bridge that produce “planar gaps” and “orthogonal gaps” that are smaller than trace gaps produced by other traces on the assembly substrate. As such, tin whiskers short across the planar gaps and orthogonal gaps before they short across trace gaps. When the assembly substrate is finished with processing steps, a system tester performs a continuity test on the whisker detectors. When the continuity test fails, an operator is notified to check for tin whiskers on the assembly substrate. Once shipped, a processor monitors the whisker detectors for shorts throughout the product's lifecycle.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for mounting a filtration housing for solid filtration media. One aspect of the invention comprises a method for mounting an air circulation component to an air circulation system, wherein the air circulation component comprises a center of gravity. The method includes providing a notch associated with an air circulation component, wherein the notch comprises a contact surface; providing a guide associated with the air circulation system, wherein the guide comprises a load bearing surface; and positioning the air circulation component with respect to the air circulation system such that a portion of the contact surface is adjacent to a portion of the load bearing surface, wherein the adjacent surfaces comprise a contact angle that is substantially coplanar with a center of gravity of the air circulation component, and wherein a portion of the weight of the air circulation component transferred between the surfaces causes a sealing pressure against a portion of the air circulation system.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating low-noise current for a disc-drive head, and in one embodiment, for a magneto-resistive head. In one embodiment, an automatic-adjustment circuit selectively disables selected pairs of current-mirror transistors to achieve a desired minimum effective width-to-length ratio of a field-effect transistor current mirror, in order to reduce device noise. In one embodiment, the current mirror provides a constant current to a magneto-resistive head in a magnetic disc drive.
Abstract:
A packaged article, especially a respiring foodstuff such as cheese which generates or releases gas during storage, and a permeable multilayer biaxially oriented film suitable for allowing escape of such gas while minimizing transfer of oxygen across the film which has a thin layer of a blend of EVOH and nylon. In a preferred embodiment the low cost film having a high permeability to CO2 and low O2 permeability is used to package cheese.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and article for solving the year 2000 problem involves limited modifications in the data definition portions of the source code and compiler support for processing the modified source code. Fields in the source code that contain a year or date values are identified and, for each such field, the user selects an appropriate technique (for example, expansion, compression or windowing). The user modifies the data definition for each identified field, by adding new attributes to request the selected technique. The user then compiles the program and resolves any ambiguous references to the variables whose definitions were modified. This procedure is applied, module by module, and each processed module is merged into production, after testing, by using a compiler option to disable the use of the new attributes. A compiler option provides for the generation of debugger hooks for each statement that has been affected by modified declarations, which may be used with a suitably equipped debugger or other run-time analysis tool.
Abstract:
A sealed lead acid cell is disclosed which has electrodes comprising metallic supports which minimize the evolution of hydrogen and resist deformation under their own weight, and which are separated by at least one layer of separator material, the capacity of the negative electrodes is arranged to be at least as great as the capacity of the positive electrodes, the thickness of the electrodes is less than 3mm, the thickness of the separator is in the range of 10% to 200% of the thickness of the electrodes, and the volume, E, of electrolyte in the cell in relation to the sum of the pore volume of the separators, X, and the pore volume of the positive and negative active materials, Y, is not greater than 2X + Y.
Abstract:
An adapter configured to engage with a hand held computer device to allow a camera on the hand held computer device to take a high quality image of an eye. The adapter allows for high quality imaging of the anterior portion of the eye and the posterior portion of the eye. The adapter can include additional modular components such as an optical pathway enclosure and a beamsplitter module.
Abstract:
A surgical device is provided, the surgical device including a first driver for performing a first movement function; a second driver for performing a second movement function; a first rotatable drive shaft configured, upon actuation, to cause selective engagement of one of the first and second drivers with a second rotatable drive shaft, wherein the second rotatable drive shaft is configured to drive the selectively engaged one of the first and second drivers. Third and fourth drivers may also be included. The drivers may function to rotate a shaft portion of the surgical device relative to, and about the longitudinal axis of, a handle; move a jaw portion relative to the shaft portion; move a first jaw relative to a second jaw; and/or move a surgical member within the second jaw.
Abstract:
A surgical device is provided that includes a jaw portion, having a first jaw in opposed corresponence with a second jaw, the second jaw including a surgical member. The surgical device may include a shaft portion coupled to a proximal end of the jaw portion and at least one motor configured to rotate the jaw portion relative to the shaft portion, to move the first jaw relative to the second jaw and move the surgical member within the second jaw. The surgical member be prevented from moving within the second jaw unless the first jaw is in a closed position relative to the second jaw. Advantageously, the surgical member may be, e.g., a cutting element and/or a stapling element, disposed within one of the jaws.
Abstract:
A device that can be used to moor, tether or suspend an article has a spool mounted in a support frame. A flange of the spool may have holes or cleats so that a free end of a tape, rope, webbing, strap or the like wound on to a hub of the spool can be attached to the flange preferably by a clipping mechanism such as a carabiner attached to the free end thereby preventing the spool from rotating further. In this way the length of tape withdrawn from the spool remains fixed. Alternatively the end of the tape may be passed via a hole or cleat or the like and tensioned before being tied off.
