Abstract: Provided in one embodiment is an improved and more flexible process for preparing a finished base oil or a white oil product comprising passing a dewaxed base oil product to a distillation column and separating the dewaxed base oil product into fuel and base oil product streams. The base oil product streams are tested to determine if they meet desired specifications. Base oil product streams that meet the desired minimum base oil specifications are passed to a hydrofinishing reactor to prepare a white oil product, or passed to direct sale.

Abstract: A method for making a hydroisomerization catalyst having improved thermal stability and metal dispersion characteristics, the catalyst prepared therefrom, and a process for making a base oil product using the catalyst are disclosed. The catalyst is prepared from a composition comprising an SSZ-91 molecular sieve and a rare earth modified alumina, with the composition being modified to contain a Group 8-10 metal, typically through impregnation of a Group 8-10 metal composition. The catalyst may be used to produce dewaxed base oil products by contacting the catalyst under hydroisomerization conditions with a hydrocarbon feedstock.

Abstract: A new crystalline molecular sieve designated SSZ-95 is disclosed. In general, SSZ-95 is synthesized from a reaction mixture suitable for synthesizing MTT-type molecular sieves and maintaining the mixture under crystallization conditions sufficient to form product. The product molecular sieve is subjected to a pre-calcination step, and ion-exchange to remove extra-framework cations, and a post-calcination step. The molecular sieve has a MTT-type framework and a H-D exchangeable acid site density of 0 to 50% relative to molecular sieve SSZ-32.

Abstract: Processes and catalyst systems are provided for dewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricant base oil. A layered catalyst system of the present invention may comprise a first hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst disposed upstream from a second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst. Each of the first and second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalysts may be selective for the isomerization of n-paraffins. The first hydroisomerization catalyst may have a higher level of selectivity for the isomerization of n-paraffins than the second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst. At least one of the first and second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalysts comprises small crystallite zeolite SSZ-32x.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved finished hydroisomerization catalyst manufactured from a first high nanopore volume (HNPV) alumina and a pore size distribution characterized by a full width at half-maximum, normalized to pore volume, of 15 to 25 nm·g/cc, and a second HNPV alumina having a pore size distribution characterized by a full width at half-maximum, normalized to pore volume, of 5 to 15 nm·g/cc. Their combination yields a HNPV base extrudate having a low particle density as compared to a conventional base extrudates.

Abstract: Methods for making a family of new crystalline molecular sieves designated SSZ-91 are disclosed. Molecular sieve SSZ-91 is structurally similar to sieves falling within the ZSM-48 family of molecular sieves, and is characterized as: (1) having a low degree of faulting, (2) a low aspect ratio that inhibits hydrocracking as compared to conventional ZSM-48 materials having an aspect ratio of greater than 8, and (3) is substantially phase pure.
