Abstract:
Communication media for providing indication of signal power to a network entity include communication paths extending from a first end to a second end; and a connector assembly terminating the first end of the communication paths, the connector assembly including a physical layer management (PLM) interface that is isolated from signals on the communication paths. The connector assembly includes a signal sensor that senses signal power propagating through the connector assembly to/from the communication paths; a programmable processor coupled to the signal sensor and the PLM interface; and data storage devices that include first instructions that cause the programmable processor to receive a signal from the signal sensor corresponding to the signal power detected by the signal sensor, and to send an indication of the signal power propagating through the connector assembly, the programmable processor sending the indication over the PLM interface to a network entity.
Abstract:
First and second active optical modules that terminate first and second active optical cable segments, each of which having a respective active end and a respective passive end, can be authenticated by: reading information from active-end storage devices attached to the respective active ends of the first and second active optical modules; providing information read from the active-end storage devices to an aggregation point; reading information from passive-end storage devices attached to the respective passive ends of the first and second active optical cable segments; providing information read from passive-end storage devices to the aggregation point; and authenticating the first and second active optical modules using information provided to the aggregation point.
Abstract:
An electrical connector arrangement includes a storage device coupled to a connector housing. The storage device is configured to store physical layer information pertaining to the electrical connector arrangement. The storage device also has contacts that enable the physical layer information to be read from the storage device by a media reading interface. A connector assembly includes at least one receptacle assembly; a printed circuit board; and a media reading interface.
Abstract:
Fiber optic connectors and adapters may be automatically secured and released via a management system. Such automation may inhibit accidental and/or unauthorized insertion of fiber optic connectors into adapter ports. The automation also may inhibit accidental and/or unauthorized removal of the fiber optic connectors from the adapter ports.
Abstract:
A capacitive coupling system includes a plurality of conductive pads situated on a dielectric layer. A plurality of switches are connected between pairs of the conductive pads via conductive linkages. The switches are operable to selectively connect selected pairs of the conductive pads to selectively adjust capacitances between conductor pairs of an electrical connector.

Abstract:
A connector arrangement includes a plug nose body; a printed circuit board positioned within a cavity of the plug nose body; and a plug cover that mounts to the plug nose body to enclose the printed circuit board within the cavity. The printed circuit board includes a storage device configured to store information pertaining to the electrical segment of communications media. The plug cover defines a plurality of slotted openings through which the second contacts are exposed. A connector assembly includes a jack module and a media reading interface configured to receive the plug. A patch panel includes multiple jack modules and multiple media reading interfaces.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein are directed to a cable assembly including at least a first optical fiber extending from a first end to a second end and an active optical module (AOM) attached to the first end of the first optical fiber and including a first storage device that is electrically connected to the electrical connector. The cable assembly also includes a passive optical connector terminating the second end of the first optical fiber and including a second storage device. The first storage device includes an AOM identifier stored therein identifying the active optical module and the second storage device includes first information stored therein indicating that the first end of the first optical fiber is associated with the AOM identifier.
Abstract:
A faceplate assembly includes a faceplate member; at least one jack module mounted in an opening of the faceplate member; and a printed circuit board assembly. The printed circuit board assembly includes a printed circuit board; a first set of secondary contacts that are electrically connected to the printed circuit board; and a network connector that is electrically connected to the secondary contacts of the first set via the printed circuit board. The secondary contacts extend into the jack module. The secondary contacts are isolated from primary contacts of the jack module.
Abstract:
Systems for a PLM configured active optical module (AOM) with native and non-native-network element support are provided. A system includes a non-native network element having a first port with a first inventory interface; a first pluggable AOM installed in the first port and coupled to the first inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a standard table entry the first pluggable AOM provides PLM information to the non-native network element in a format complying with a MSA or a standard for the inventory interface; an extended network element having a second port with a second inventory interface; and a second pluggable AOM installed in the second port and coupled to the second inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a non-standard table entry, processing devices provide PLM information to the extended network element in a format for a physical layer management system.
