The power coupler comprise a first switching device; a second switching device coupled with the first switching device; a power transformer comprising a first core winding and a second core winding; a first capacitance coupled between the terminals of the first core winding; a second capacitance coupled between the terminals of the second core winding; and a third capacitance coupled between the first and second cores windings. The power transformer is coupled with the first and second switching devices. The power coupler is configured to reduce switching power loss using an adiabatic technique and by selecting appropriate switching time of the switching devices.

Local oscillator circuitry for an antenna array is disclosed. The circuitry includes an array of rotary traveling wave oscillators which are arranged in a pattern over an area and coupled so as to make them coherent. This provides for a set of phase synchronous local oscillators distributed over a large area. The array also includes a plurality of phase shifters each of which is connected to one of the rotary oscillators to provide a phase shifted local oscillator for the array. The phase shifter optionally includes a cycle counter that is configured to count cycles of the rotary oscillator to which it is connected and control circuitry that is then operative to provide a shifted rotary oscillator output based on the count from the cycle counter. A system and method for operating a true-time delay phased array antenna system. The system includes a plurality of antenna element circuits for driving or receiving an rf signal from the elements of the array. Each element circuit has a transmit and a receive path and a local multiphase oscillator, such as a rotary traveling wave oscillator. Each path has an analog delay line for providing a true-time delay for the antenna element. Preferably, the analog delay line is a charge coupled device whose control nodes are connected to phases of the local multiphase oscillator to implement a delay that is an integer number local multiphase oscillator periods. A fractional delay is also included in the path by using a sample and hold circuit connected to a particular phase of the oscillator. By delaying each antenna element by a true time delay, broadband operation of the array is possible.

An inerting system for an aircraft fuel tank (10) uses an air separation device (12) to produce a supply of nitrogen-enriched air to replenish the fuel tank on consumption of fuel and to maintain the pressure difference across the walls of the tank (10) below design limits. The air separation device (12) provides substantially the whole of the mass of the gas required and so there is substantially no inward venting. This provides a substantially homogenous nitrogen content in the air in the tank (10).

A frequency divider using a clock source with a plurality of phase signals of a multi-phase oscillator. In one version, the divider includes a plurality of spot-moving stages that are connected to form a ring. Spot-moving stages are stages that advance a one or a zero, while clearing the previous stage. Depending on the number of stages and the number of phases of the clock to advance a spot through all of the stages, a divider ratio is determined. In another embodiment, a plurality of latch elements is provided with a divided input and each is re-clocked with the phases of a multi-phase oscillator. The outputs of the latch elements are combined in a capacitor array to create the output waveform. An interpolator useful in conjunction with a frequency divider is also disclosed. When the interpolator is placed in the feedback path of a PLL, a fractional frequency multiplier/divider results.

System and method for converting an analog voltage to a digital signal. The system includes an input voltage sampler, a ramp generator, a comparator, a time-to-digital converter (TDC), and a multiphase oscillator, preferably a rotary traveling wave oscillator, that provides the critical system timing. The phases of the multiphase oscillator define a sampling interval during which the input voltage is sampled and held and a conversion interval during which the ramp generator, comparator, and TDC operate to convert the sampled voltage to the digital signal. The TDC samples at times provided by the phases of the multiphase oscillator to form the bits of the digital signal. The sampler, ramp generator, and comparator can be constructed from multiple fragments, one of which is selectable for calibration while the rest of the fragments are joined for normal operation. Multiple converters can be interleaved to increase the sampling rate.

A method embodiment of the present invention comprises: the SP (101) encrypting, using at least one transport key, at least one portion of the software module, each portion having an indication of location of the portion; the SP (101) encrypting each transport key and each indication using an asymmetric TRM public key, thereby forming a key transformation unit (KTU) (207), the TRM public key (150) having a corresponding TRM private key (190), the TRM public key (150) and corresponding TRM private key (190) being certified by a first certification authority (CA-1) (109); the SP (101) digitally signing the encrypted portion(s) with at least one asymmetric SP private key, each said SP private key having a corresponding SP public key, to produce a signed software module, each SP public key being certified by a second certification authority (CA-2) (119), CA2 (119) being different than CA-1 (109); and the SP (101) transmitting the portion(s), the KTU (207), and the signed software module to the TRM (103) over the communications network; and the TRM (103) recovering the transport key(s) and the indication(s) by decrypting the KTU (207) using the TRM private key (190); the TRM identifying the portion(s) using the recovered indication(s), verifying the certified SP public key using the public key of CA-2, authenticating the portion(s) using the certified SP public key; and decrypting the portion(s) using the recovered transport key(s).
