    摘要: A beamforming system comprising a plurality of modular beamformers is provided. The modular beamformers may be operatively coupled to each other (for example, in parallel). Each modular beamformer may comprise a plurality of signal generation units configured to generate signals. Each modular beamformer may further comprise a plurality of delaying units configured to receive the signals and adaptively delay output of the signals. Each modular beamformer may further comprise a plurality of multipliers assigned to the delaying units to generate conditioned signals by adaptively applying weights to the signals output by the plurality of delaying units. Each modular beamformer may further comprise a plurality of summers configured to combine the conditioned signals to generate a phased array output signal.

    摘要: A phased array antenna system including a front-end circuit having a plurality of antenna channels, each including a front antenna element and a rear antenna element, that provides a spatially combined beam. Each antenna channel includes a beam scan phase shifter and a true time delay phase shifter through which the receive signals or the transmit signals propagate. The system further includes a back-end circuit spaced from the front-end circuit and including an antenna receiving the receive signals from the rear elements or transmitting the transmit signals to the rear elements. The back-end circuit further includes an ortho-mode transducer that separates the transmit signal or the receive signal into orthogonally polarized signals, and a pair of couplers and a pair of polarization phase shifters that combine to adjust the polarization of the transmit signal or the receive signal. The spatially combined beam is reconfigurable in beam shape and its location.

    摘要: An active array radar system is controlled by photonic signals. The array of N antenna elements is divided into M subarrays, each having N/M antenna elements. Tunable lasers provide M optical wavelengths within non-overlapping bands. For reception, the microwave signals are optically modulated onto a single fiber for each subarray. Time delays are introduced for an offset between elements in a subarray and for an offset between subarrays. By using wavelength division multiplexing, a true time delay is attributed to each antenna element on the array. A non-coherent optical combiner having an array of N photodetectors demodulates the receive signals and recovers the coherent sum of the RF signals.

    摘要: A "just in time" pipelined signal processing architecture for a phased array antenna simultaneously updates the weights of all phase control elements of the antenna with reduced wiring complexity and fast beam steering updates. Signal propagation paths between a pipelined communication link--through subarray control processors distributed along the pipeline link--and phase control elements of the antenna array are provided with respectively different serial pipelined transport delays. These delays are such that all phase control signals produced by the subarray control processors are applied simultaneously to their associated subsets of antenna phase control elements. The use of serial (FIFO) delays to equalize pipeline and weight processing latency allows each subarray controller to process and forward serial beam vector data at the same data rate at which it is received from an upstream host processor.
