Abstract:
The present invention relates to an article and a method for its preparation; the article comprises a cured polymeric film superposing paper or paperboard. The polymeric film is derived from a dispersion which comprises:
a) a dispersant which is a copolymer with an acid value of 130 or less, comprising structural units of ethylene and a carboxylic acid monomer, wherein the copolymer has a melt flow index in the range of from 50 to 2000 g/10 min at 190° C./2.16 kg; wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of structural units of ethylene to carboxylic acid monomer is in the range of from 95:5 to 70:30; and wherein the dispersant has a concentration in the range of from 9 to 50 weight percent based on the weight of polymer solids in the dispersion; b) a base polymer comprising non-functionalized ethylene-co-alkene copolymers, wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of the structural units of ethylene to alkene is in the range of from 99.8:0.2 to 50:50; and c) a neutralizing agent which is a hard base and excludes an organic base having a boiling point of less than 250° C.; wherein the concentration of the neutralizing agent is sufficient to neutralize at least half of the carboxylic acid groups associated with the dispersion composition.
The article of the present invention is useful as a barrier to a wide range of hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials.

The instant invention is an aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same. The aqueous based blend composition comprises (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, wherein the polyolefin dispersion has an average volume particle size diameter in the range of from 400 to 1500 nm; and a pH range from 8 to 11; and (b) an acrylic emulsion acrylic solids having an average weight particle size diameter in the range of from 75 to 450 nm; an acid level in the range of from 0.25 to 5 percent by weight of acid monomers based on the weight of the acrylic monomer, and a weight average molecular weight in the range of from 200,000 to 5,000,000 g/mole, and a glass transition temperature (Tg) in the range of from 7 to 100° C., wherein said acrylic emulsion has a pH in the range of from 7 to 11; wherein said aqueous based blend composition has a solid content in the range of from 15 to 70 percent by weight of solids, based on the weight of the aqueous based blend composition, and a pH in the range of from 7 to 11.
Abstract:
A synthetic leather article comprising a top coating derived from externally emulsified PUD and a 2K non-solvent PU foam is provided. The leather article exhibits high delamination resistance while retaining superior mechanical properties and appearance comparable with those derived from the organic solvent-based PU. A method for preparing the synthetic leather article is also provided.

The present invention provides aqueous polyolefin dispersion compositions for use in metal coatings, such as can coatings, comprising one or more polyolefin base polymer, one or more at least partially neutralized olefinic stabilizing agent having an acid number (AN) of from 80 to 250, preferably, a polyolefin stabilizing agent, such as an olefin-carboxylic acid copolymer or a blend of two such polymers, an optional coupling agent having an acid number (AN) of from 10 to 70 and a melt index of from 500 to 5,000,000 grams of polymer melt passing in 10 minutes through a heated syringe or cylinder at 190° C. with a plunger loaded with 2.16 kg, preferably, a polymer, and a hindered phenolic antioxidant containing an ester linkage dispersed in the polyolefin dispersion composition. The hindered phenolic antioxidant containing an ester linkage can be masterbatched with a polyolefin base polymer, polyolefin stabilizing agent or a coupling agent which is a polymer, melt mixed with the remaining polyolefin composition and then dispersed with aqueous media and a neutralizing agent to form the aqueous dispersion.

Epoxy resins comprising a diglycidyl ether of Formula 1 as defined herein are described. The diglycidyl ether contains a cycloaliphatic ring of 3-5 carbon atoms. The epoxy resins are made by a method comprising the steps of: (a) forming a reaction mixture comprising a diol of Formula 3 as defined herein, an epihalohydrin, a phase transfer catalyst, and optionally an organic solvent; (b) contacting a basic acting substance and water with the reaction mixture of step (a); (c) washing the mixture of step (b) with an aqueous solvent to substantially remove salts; and (d) isolating the epoxy resin. Curable and cured compositions comprising the epoxy resins are also disclosed. The epoxy resins have increased glass transition temperatures and reduced viscosity compared to epoxy resins derived from cyclohexanedimethanol.

Abstract:
A curable coating composition is provided having multi-functionalized acrylic copolymer and silicone imine resin curing agents. The acrylic copolymer of the curable coating composition has, in polymerized form, epoxy functionalized groups and cure compatibility groups and the silicone imine forms an amino-functional silicone in the presence of water. The coating compositions are useful in the field of superior weatherable and durable coatings and are useful to replace isocyanate-containing polyurethane based coatings. Also provided are coated articles produced from the curable composition.
