In one embodiment, the object support mechanism rotates the plurality of objects at a predetermined speed. The objects are illuminated and obscured by an illumination source in such manner as to make the objects appear to be animated in an interactive manner based on user input such as voice input. For example, the zoetrope may include an input interface for receiving external signals that may affect the operation of the animation sequence. The external signals may include audio, video, digital, or analog signals.

    摘要: A mechanism is disclosed for resolving conflicts between input ports of a Batcher-Banyan Packet switching network that wish to transmit data packets to the same output port during a particular packet switch cycle. The input ports of the Batcher-Banyon network are connected in a serial ring. Bit positions on the ring represent output ports. Each input port having a data packet to transmit to a particular output port may reserve that output port before the start of the next Batcher-Banyan packet switch cycle by writing a "1" in the ring bit position corresponding to the output port to which the data packet is addressed. If the particular output port has already been reserved by another input port, the data packet is buffered.

The input section includes a photodiode (14) and a transimpedance amplifier (16) with an AGC shunt device (19) connected between its input nodes (+,-). The shaping section includes, in order, an AGC amplifier (24), an equalizer amplifier (26), a buffer amplifier (42), and a filter (44). A controller (36) responsive to the photocurrent controls the impedance value of a dynamic impedance in the equalizer so that the frequency zero of the equalizer tracks the pole frequency of the input section as it changes in the course of changes in the value of its AGC shunt. This maintains the frequency response of the shaping section so that it continues to compensate for the frequency response characteristic of the input section. A trigger (52) responsive to the impedance value of the shunt activates the equalizer only when the shunt is active.Also disclosed is a particularly advantageous differential configuration for the equalizer which includes a diode bridge (76,78,80,82) and four setting resistors (R.sub.1,R.sub.2, R.sub.3,R.sub.4) by which the break points for the frequency response can be set.

    摘要: An improved transimpedance amplifier allows an optical transmitter and receiver to be in close proximity to each other without fear of overloading the receiver. The improvement increases the dynamic range of the transimpedance amplifier and thereby the operating range of the receiver. A peak detector (22) at the output of an inverting amplifier (11) within the transimpedance amplifier turns on a field effect transistor (FET) circuit (23) when an AC component of an electrical signal becomes so large that the inverting amplifier would otherwise go into saturation. The FET circuit (23) acts as an AC shunt impedance at the input of the inverting amplifier and diverts the excess AC current to ground (30). Also, the FET circuit (23) acts as a DC resistance in concert with sense and sink current mirrors (21) and (24) to effectively divert an excessive DC component of the electrical signal away from the input of the inverting amplifier (11). Although the dynamic range of the transimpedance amplifier is increased, the optical sensitivity and the performance of the receiver remain unchanged.

    摘要: An apparatus for animating a magnetically levitated object. The apparatus includes a display with an overhead housing. A magnetic levitation and oscillation assembly is included with an electromagnet in the overhead housing. A levitated object with a body in which a magnetic element is embedded is positioned proximate to the electromagnet and levitated within the display. The levitation and oscillation assembly includes a levitation actuator driving the electromagnet with a control signal to generate a levitating magnetic field. The assembly includes an oscillating signal generator that oscillates the levitating magnetic field at an oscillating frequency. During magnetic field oscillation, the object body is levitated by the electromagnet and is concurrently subjected to first oscillating movements while attached elements such as wings are subjected to second oscillating movements near their resonant frequency with larger displacements, whereby the object body appears stationary while attached elements vibrate with a reciprocating or flapping motion.

    摘要: A system and method for accessing directory information over a telephony network employing the ADSI protocol and for presenting the directory information at the user's conventional TV monitor are described. The system includes a directory service unit, a telephony network, such as the public switched telephony network, and multiple user interface units. The directory service unit receives, processes, and stores in memory directory information from directory information providers which information is transmitted to the user interface unit of requesting users on demand. The directory service unit is connected to user interface units via the telephony network and uses the ADSI protocol to communicate data and voice signals containing directory information to users. Each user interface unit converts directory information in the form of data signals into signals for display on the user's TV screen and transmits audio directory information, such as audio program description, to the audio input of the user's TV monitor. The user interface unit also converts requests and interactive inputs generated by the user at the infrared remote of the TV monitor into local display commands for locally controlling the appearance of directory information on the user's TV monitor or into DTMF digits for transmission to the directory service unit. On receiving a user's request for directory service, the directory service unit transmits to the user menus of directory information in ADSI format, which menus are processed at the user interface unit for display on the user's TV screen. On receiving the user's interactive inputs in the form of DTMF digits for a specific directory or a program description, the directory service unit retrieves the appropriate information from memory, and transmits it in ADSI format to the user interface unit where the requested information is processed for presentation at the user's TV monitor.
