Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus for adaptively interacting with a driver via voice interaction is provided. The apparatus includes a computational models block and an adaptive interactive voice system. The computational models block is configured to receive driver related parameters, vehicle related parameters, and vehicle environment parameters from a plurality of sensors. The computational models block is further configured to generate a driver state model based on the driver related parameters and to generate a vehicle state model based on the vehicle related parameter. The computational models block is further configured to generate a vehicle environment state model based on the vehicle environment parameters. The adaptive interactive voice system is configured to generate a voice output based on a driver's situation and context as indicated on information included within at least one of the driver state model, the vehicle state model, and the vehicle environment state model.

Abstract: A pedestrian information system that can provide alerts to a distracted pedestrian related to hazards in the pedestrian's path. The system can detect objects, and determine if the objects are hazardous and if the pedestrian is likely to collide with the objects. The system can then determine from the pedestrian's activity whether the pedestrian is aware of identified hazards. If the system determines that the pedestrian is not aware of the identified hazards, then the system can output audio, visual, and/or haptic alerts to the pedestrian.

Abstract: A system for modifying a stiffness of at least a portion of a vehicle component includes one or more devices coupled to the vehicle component and a processor coupled to the one or more devices. The processor is configured to determine that a software application has switched from a first mode to a second mode and cause the one or more devices to modify the stiffness of the at least a portion of the vehicle component from a first stiffness associated with the first mode to a second stiffness associated with the second mode.

Abstract: A system, apparatus, and computer program product for monitoring a subject person's environment while the person is isolated from the environment. The system can use a microphone and/or a digital camera or imager to detect and capture sounds, voices, object, symbols, and faces in the subject person's environment, for example. The captured items can be analyzed, identified, and provided in an events log. The subject person can later review the events log to understand what happened while isolated. In various instances, the subject person can select an event from the log and review the underlying detected sounds, voices, object, symbols, and faces.

Abstract: A product for detecting people approaching an isolated user, discouraging the detected people from disturbing the user, and for taking messages from the approaching people. The product may be embodied in noise-canceling headphones that the user is wearing, for example. The product can include a camera and a microphone that can detect approaching people. The product can also include an externally-facing speaker that can play an audio message to the approaching person to attempt to discourage the person from disturbing the user. Abstract: A directional alert system within a vehicle is configured to transmit an alert signal towards a specifically targeted area without substantially affecting the acoustic environment in a broader surrounding area. The directional alert system determines the target area by processing sensor data reflects a direction that a driver of the vehicle is looking or facing. The directional alert system then positions an acoustic transducer to generate an acoustic signal towards the direction of interest. The directional alert system may also wirelessly pair with computing devices residing in a target region associated with the direction of interest, and transmit wireless notifications to those computing devices to alert the users of those devices.

The technique includes determining an emotional state associated with a person, and modifying one or more acoustic characteristics of a voice sample acquired from the person based on the emotional state to alter an affect associated with the voice sample. The technique further includes generating a second voice sample based on the one or more acoustic characteristics that have been modified, and transmitting the second voice sample.

Abstract: A personal safety system detects imminent danger or other event of interest and then modifies a sound panorama to focus a user's attention towards the direction of the danger or other event of interest. The personal safety system may isolate sounds originating from the direction of the danger or other event of interest, collapse the sound panorama towards the direction of the danger or other event of interest, or compress the sound panorama to align with the direction of the danger or other event of interest. The personal safety system may be integrated into an automobile or a wearable system physically attached to the user. Advantageously, the attention of the user may be drawn towards imminent danger or other events of interest without introducing additional sensory information to the user, thereby reducing the likelihood of startling or distracting the user.

Abstract: A notification system is configured to determine a set of parking restrictions associated with a parking space where a driver parks a vehicle. The set of parking restrictions indicate a particular allotment of time that the vehicle may be parked in the parking space. The notification system then sets a timer that reflects the allotment of time. The notification system also determines a set of contextual constraints associated with the driver that limit the ability of the driver to return to the vehicle. The notification system computes an amount of buffer needed for the driver to return to the vehicle, based on the set of contextual constraints. When the amount of time remaining on the timer is equal to the buffer, the notification system notifies the driver that a parking violation is imminent, providing the driver with sufficient time to return to the vehicle and address the situation.

Abstract: A stage arrangement system is configured to arrange stage elements on a stage where a performance is to take place. The stage arrangement system is configured to move the stage elements to reflect arrangement data that reflects desired positions and orientations for each stage element. The stage arrangement system first localizes one or more stage elements by determining the position and orientation associated with each such element. Then, the stage arrangement system repositions and/or reorients each stage element to comply with the arrangement data. Each stage element may indicate position and/or orientation changes to stagehands or manual laborers, who then move each element accordingly. Alternatively, each stage element may autonomously move in order to implement the position and/or orientation changes.
