Abstract: Compositions for inhibiting the attachment of microbes to a biotic or abiotic surface are disclosed. The compositions include a carrier and an effective amount of an anti-adherent agent. The anti-adherent agents include Dimethicone Propyl PG-Betaine, PEG-150/Decyl Alcohol/SMDI Copolymer, Ammonium Acryloyl Dimethyltaurate/Carboxyethyl, Acrylate Crosspolymer, PEG-20 Soy Sterol, PEG/PPG-25/25 Dimethicone, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane (and) PEG-12 Dimethicone Crosspolymer, PPG-12-PEG-50 Lanolin, Glycerin (and) Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract, VP/Dimethiconylacrylate/Polycarbamyl/Polyglycol Ester, PEG-10 Sunflower Glycerides, PEG-8 Amodimethicone, PEG/PPG 20/23 Dimethicone Isobutylene/Ethylmaleimide/Hydroxyethylmaleimide Copolymer, Methacryloyl Ethyl Betaine/Acrylates Copolymer, Poloxamer 407, Ethylene Oxide/Propylene Oxide Block Copolymer, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Castor Oil/IPDI Copolymer, PEG-15 Soyamine/IPDI Copolymer Dimer Dilinoleate, Dimethicone PEG-7 Isostearate, PEG-12 Dimethicone, PEG-17 Dimethicone, Polyoxyethylene Polyoxypropylene block copolymer, Polyalkyleneoxide modified silicone copolymer, Disteareth-75 IPDI, and combinations thereof. Various delivery vehicles, including wipes, may be used to deliver the composition to surfaces.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to alcohol-based anti-adherent compositions that do not adhere to or attract Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria once it is applied to a surface and dried. The composition may include as anti-adherent agents, hydrophilic film-formers such as cellulosics, gums, acrylates, nonionic polymers, and anionic polymers. Examples of anti-adherent agents include Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, Cellulose gum, Acacia Senegal Gum; Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-11, VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate/Polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester; Acrylates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Crosspolymer, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Methylcellulose, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, VP/Polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester, Acrylates/Steareth-20 Methacrylate Copolymer; Acrylates Copolymer, and any combination thereof. The anti-adherent may be applied to surfaces using a vehicle such as a wipe.

Abstract: Lateral-flow assay and time-resolved fluorescence technologies provide a sensitive tool for detecting norovirus particles in a sample. A flow-through assay device employs norovirus and norovirus G2 antibodies. The lateral-flow assay includes a conjugate pad having conjugated probes. The conjugated probes are particles modified with a binding member that is configured to bind with a norovirus. The particles also have a fluorescent label. A general method of detecting the virus includes (i) preparing a sample with contaminants, (ii) processing the sample and depositing it onto the assay device, and (iii) measuring the fluorescence signal.

Abstract: A composition may be applied to animate and inanimate surfaces to render such surfaces antimicrobial for as long as the composition remains on the surface. The composition contains at least one pathogen-associated virus that is self-regenerating so that a user need not take steps to regenerate the material. The virus is or viruses are contained within a polymer matrix. The polymer matrix has the ability to maintain a desired moisture content to support the regeneration of the virus(es). Various methods of using the composition include the coating of animate and inantimate surfaces to prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.

Abstract: A system for removing microorganisms from a surface is described. The system includes a conducting member, a voltage source, and an electrostatic field controller. The conducing member includes a nonwoven material incorporating conductive fibers. The controller is electrically connected to the conducting member and is configured to apply a DC voltage of about 15 volts or less to the conducting member via the voltage source. The surface to be contacted can include any surface present in households, food industry facilities, medical facilities, etc. Such surfaces can include tables, countertops, walls, cabinets, doors, door handles, door knobs, etc. The system can also be used to treat devices used in the aforementioned environments, such as food preparation equipment, medical devices, household appliances, etc. The system can reduce the amount of microorganisms on the surface by at least about 1 log (90%) without the use of chemicals, high voltages, or long exposure times.

Abstract: A disinfectant composition that contains a unique combination of a primary antiviral agent and a secondary antiviral agent is provided. More particularly, the primary antiviral agent includes a polyprotic acid having a low first acid dissociation constant and the secondary antiviral agent is selected from the group consisting of an anionic N-acyl compound, metal halide salt, amine compound, amine compound, aliphatic amine oxide, alkyl glycoside, alcohol ethoxylate, and combinations thereof. By selectively controlling the particular nature of each antiviral agent and their relative concentration, the present inventors have discovered that a synergistic affect can be achieved in which the disinfectant composition is capable of exhibiting an antiviral efficacy against non-enveloped viruses.

The method can additionally include allowing the nitrogen source to be metabolized by the at least one organism and increase the pH of the environment. The releasing of the carbon source to the environment and the releasing of the nitrogen source to the environment can be selectively timed to control the pH of the environment to the target pH range of the environment.
