The present invention provides a coating composition for forming a titanium oxide film, comprising (A) a specific titanium-containing aqueous liquid and (B) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organic acids and their salts. The present invention also provides a process for forming a titanium oxide film using the coating composition, and a metal substrate coated therewith.

The invention provides a crosslinking agent comprising a compound having at least two noncyclic acid anhydride groups and represented by the following formula ##STR1## wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 2 to 50 carbon atoms, R' is a bivalent hydrocarbon group having 2 to 50 carbon atoms, the hydrocarbon groups R and R' containing or not containing an ether linkage, urethane linkage or ester linkage, and n is an integer of 1 to 500.The invention also provides a curable composition including (A) at least one resin selected from the group consisting of (i) a resin having at least one epoxy group and at least one hydroxyl group in the molecule, (ii) a resin mixture of a resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule and a resin having at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule, and (iii) a resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule, and (B) the above-mentioned crosslinking agent.

The invention provides a method of forming a cured coating film which comprises exposing a coating composition consisting of, or containing as a main component, a resin containing polymerizable unsaturated group and aprotic onium-containing group of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 means a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 8 carbon atoms which may optionally be substituted by a hydroxyl, alkoxy or ester group or a halogen atom; ##STR2## where Z means a nitrogen atom or phosphorus atom and Y means a sulfur atom; R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and respectively mean an organic group of 1 to 14 carbon atoms, provided that R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, or R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may jointly form a heterocyclic group taken together with the adjacent nitrogen, phosphorus or sulfur atom, to actinic radiation or electron beams to thereby induce a crosslinking reaction and, then, subjecting the composition to heat treatment at a temperature not less than 80.degree. A resinous composition containing (A) a high molecular weight hydroxy compound having 2 or more hydroxy groups per molecule and having a number average molecular weight of 3,000 to 200,000, (B) a high molecule weight epoxy compound having 2 or more epoxy groups per molecule and having a number average molecular weight of 120 to 200,000, (C) a silane compound having one or more silicon-containing functional groups per molecule and (D) a chelate of aluminum, titanium or zirconium with a ligand exhibiting ketoenol tautomerism, can be cured at temperatures not exceeding 100.degree. C. and forms a desirable coating when cured.

Disclosed is a resin composition curable at a low temperature and characterized in that the composition comprises:(a) at least one of a copolymer comprising as its monomer components an oxirane-containing vinyl monomer and an alkoxysilane-containing vinyl monomer and a vinyl copolymer comprising at its monomer components a polysiloxane macromonomer and an oxirane-containing vinyl monomer,(b) a chelate compound, and(c) a compound having a number average molecular weight of up to about 1,000 and containing at least two alicyclic oxirane groups in the molecule.
