The present invention generally relates to nanoscale heterostructures and, in some cases, to nanowire heterostructures exhibiting ballistic transport, and/or to metal-semiconductor junctions that that exhibit no or reduced Schottky barriers. One aspect of the invention provides a solid nanowire having a core and a shell, both of which are essentially undoped. For example, in one embodiment, the core may consist essentially of undoped germanium and the shell may consist essentially of undoped silicon. Carriers are injected into the nanowire, which can be ballistically transported through the nanowire. In other embodiments, however, the invention is not limited to solid nanowires, and other configurations, involving other nanoscale wires, are also contemplated within the scope of the present invention. Yet another aspect of the invention provides a junction between a metal and a nanoscale wire that exhibit no or reduced Schottky barriers. As a non-limiting example, a nanoscale wire having a core and a shell may be in physical contact with a metal electrode, such that the Schottky barrier to the core is reduced or eliminated. Still other aspects of the invention are directed to electronic devices exhibiting such properties, and techniques for methods of making or using such devices.

In an embodiment, a wireless device receiver chain includes a mixer with a common-gate common-source (CGCS) input stage. Differential signals from an off-chip matching network may be input to the CGCS input stage of the mixer, which downconverts the signals to baseband or some intermediate frequency. The input stage includes a pair of NMOS transistors in a common-gate configuration and a pair of PMOS transistors in a common-source configuration. A potential advantage of the CGCS input stage over the existing CGO transconductance stage configuration is that by adding a common-source stage through the PMOS differential-pair, the transconductance gain is decoupled from the high Q matching network.

A tunable oscillator having a tuning voltage input includes an inductor, and first and second varactor pairs arranged with the inductor to generate a signal having a frequency responsive to a tuning voltage applied to the tuning voltage input, each of the varactor pairs having a bias voltage input that may be controlled independently of the other varactor pair. The first varactor pair may be biased such that its capacitance varies substantially linearly with the tuning voltage over a first portion of the tuning range, and the second varactor pair may be biased such that its capacitance varies substantially linearly with the tuning voltage over a second portion of the tuning range.

One aspect of the invention is directed to nanostructures on substrates. In some cases, the substrate may be or comprise glass and/or polymers, and in some cases, the substrate may be flexible and/or transparent. The present invention is also directed, according to another aspect, to techniques for fabricating nanostructures on substrates. For example, monolayers of nanoscale semiconductors may be etched, e.g. photolithographically, to yield discrete and/or predetermined arrays of nanoscale semiconductors and other articles on a substrate. In one embodiment, the array may include hundreds, thousands, or more of electronic components such as field-effect transistors. Such arrays may be connected to electrodes using photolithographic techniques, and in some cases, without the need for registering individual semiconductor-metal contacts.

A VCO with temperature compensation is achieved using reverse biased diodes. The VCO includes an amplifier that provides the required signal gain, a resonator tank circuit that provides the required phase shift, and at least one frequency tuning circuit for tuning the frequency of the oscillator signal. Each frequency tuning circuit includes at least one tuning capacitor and at least one MOS pass transistor that connects or disconnects the tuning capacitor(s) to/from the resonator tank circuit. Each reverse biased diode may be a parasitic diode that is formed at a drain or source junction of a MOS transistor. The reverse biased diodes have capacitance that can be controlled by a reverse bias voltage to compensate for drift in the VCO oscillation frequency over temperature.

The present invention relates to a method and system for producing and delivering sterile, airless, and highly loaded ice slurry for inducing therapeutic hypothermia. The method is capable of producing and delivering ice slurry in a patient to induce hypothermia through internal and external cooling methods such as subcutaneous, intravascular, intraperitoneal, gastrointestinal, and lung methods. The method is capable of producing and delivering saline ice slurry or other phase-change slurries compatible with human tissues. Ice slurry is made by crushing, smoothing, and mixing ice slush in an airtight and self-collapsible liquid container, followed by being pumped out through flexible tubing and injection port into a patient body without air. The novel method and system are simple, and easy to use, which facilitate long term storage, immediately ready to use, and airless delivery.

The present invention discloses a front frame, a method for making the front frame, and a liquid crystal display device incorporated with the front frame. The method includes the steps of a) providing, an elongate metallic strip having head and tail and divided by cutting three predetermined V-cuts to divide into four interconnected sections; b) conducting a rolling process along a central line of the metallic strip such that an angled strip having a top surface and a skirt perpendicular the top surface is formed, wherein the V-cuts are located on the top surface; c) folding the angled strip centered on each of the V-cuts ninety (90) degrees such that each individual section is perpendicular to each other so as to configure a rectangular frame; and d) interconnecting the head and the tail of the angled strip to configure a rigid front frame. The metallic strip is transformed into an angled strip angled strip by means of rolling, and then folded, interconnected so as to configure the front frame. The front frame made through conventional pressing can be readily replaced. The operation is simplified, and is readily suitable for making front frame with larger dimensions.

The present invention is related to a backlight module and a liquid crystal display device, and includes a light source, a light guide plate, a back plate, a fixed retaining part and an elastic retaining part. The edge of the back plate is formed with a peripheral frame perpendicular to a plane of the back plate. One end of the elastic retaining part is connected to the peripheral frame, and the other end of the elastic retaining part is elastically connected to a surface of the light guide plate opposite to the light input surface. The cost of the present invention is low and the manufacture thereof is simple, while the deformation of the light guide plate due to the temperature can be transferred to a surface of the light guide plate opposite to the light input surface.
